    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

    The Deschutes County Justice Court operates as a state court, managed by the County and guided by the leadership of an elected Justice of the Peace. The Justice Court' s office is located in Redmond, with court sessions taking place in Redmond, Sisters, and La Pine. The Justice Court is responsible for deciding traffic and ordinance violations, as well as small claims and specific civil matters.

    ABOUT THE JOB:

    Deschutes County is hiring for a Court Services Assistant who will be offering essential technical support related to court matters for the community. Under basic supervision, this role involves providing courtroom assistance services across various locations within Deschutes County, in addition to clerical and cashier responsibilities to support the operations of the Justice Court.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Performs advanced data entry; manages multi-line phones; handles cashiering; maintains files; prepares/processes Justice Court documents in compliance with Justice Court and County regulations. Provides Court service information and customer assistance; serves as primary customer liaison; completes forms; files small claims; processes uniform citations/complaints for multiple cities and counties; answers inquiries within authorized scope.

    + Facilitates Justice Court administration Oregon law; communicates Court policies, procedures, and orders from the Justice of the Peace.

    + Provides recommendations/solutions to Court clients consistent with Court rules, policies, legislation, Oregon DMV requirements, and Oregon Revised Statutes; safeguards confidentiality of Court records and proceedings.

    + Assists with scheduling and docketing for court dates and mediation; ensures timely client notifications. Processes payments across multiple tender types; performs other duties as assigned by the Court.

    What You Will Bring:

    Knowledge of or experience with:

    + Court functions, procedures, terminology, rules and policies of the court.

    + Fundamental statutes and guidelines that oversee the distribution of information from court records.

    + Cashiering/money handling protocols.

    Skill in:

    + Utilizing a personal computer with specialized software, demonstrating a swift adaptability to new applications, and efficiently entering information into a computer system with accuracy and speed.

    + Maintaining consistent and accurate management of records at high volume.

    + Effectively communicating through written and verbal communications skills.

    + Efficiently and effectively addressing hostile, angry and emotional customers.

    Compensation

     

    $4,063.84 to $5,445.98 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union represented position is available immediately.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + High school diploma or GED equivalent;

    + AND one (1) year of clerical experience, preferably in a Court or law enforcement environment;

    + OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience utilizing Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS).

    + Current possession of a LEDS certification.

    + Previous or current background in legal settings or the criminal justice system.

     

    Necessary Special Requirements

     

    Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended

     

    + Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification from the State of Oregon is required within six months of hire date.

     

    Must have dependable transportation and be able and willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
