AI ENGINEER ASSOCIATE

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As an AI Engineer Associate, you'll work with both traditional scientific models and large language models (LLMs) to improve the EPA’s chemical review processes. The role involves the design, programming, testing, and refinement of models to analyze chemical data for risk assessment, collaboration with EPA scientists and stakeholders, and the incorporation of LLMs to enhance data analysis, report generation, and decision support capabilities. Successful candidates will deploy developed models into production, integrating them seamlessly into the chemical review workflow, and collaborate with EPA staff to ensure compatibility with current systems. The contractor will adhere to best practices for model management, versioning, maintenance, reproducibility, and rigorous testing to ensure accuracy and compliance with EPA standards. The AI Engineer will provide comprehensive documentation aligned with EPA’s Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) guidelines, ongoing support, and maintenance of deployed models.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

• Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
• Experience: 0+ years of related experience
• Technical skills: Data Science, R, Python, LLMs
• Security clearance level: must be able to obtain EPA Public Trust Level 4
• US citizenship required
• Role requirements: working knowledge of : machine learning, data science, statistical modeling, and experience with LLMs, cloud computing and CI/CD concepts to effectively manage AI workflows. Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred. Python, R, and relevant machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is required. Ethical AI practices, including bias mitigation and transparency.

The likely salary range for this position is $85,000 - $115,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

To encourage work/life balance, GDIT offers employees full flex work weeks where possible and a variety of paid time off plans, including vacation, sick and personal time, holidays, paid parental, military, bereavement and jury duty leave. GDIT typically provides new employees with 15 days of paid leave per calendar year to be used for vacations, personal business, and illness and an additional 10 paid holidays per year. Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on the employee’s date of hire. The GDIT Paid Family Leave program provides a total of up to 160 hours of paid leave in a rolling 12 month period for eligible employees.
