    We are currently hiring an **Outreach Specialist** to support a client’s program in North Carolina. This program plays a critical role in modernizing transportation infrastructure and improving mobility across the state. Our communications practice supports a wide range of public- and private sector initiatives—from transportation and energy to health, housing, and workforce development.

     

    In this role, you will collaborate with program stakeholders to design and deliver outreach strategies that ensure residents understand our client’s messaging and how to access their services. You will assist the Communications Team in planning and conducting outreach events and serve as the on-site staff presence at these events. This position requires residency in the greater Raleigh or Charlotte area and frequent travel across the region.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Support development and execution of outreach and engagement activities aligned with the program’s communications strategy.

    + Serve as the on-the-ground staff at outreach and intake events, coordinating logistics, staffing, and event documentation.

    + Coordinate with contractors, local governments, community partners, and transportation stakeholders to maximize outreach impact.

    + Engage directly with the public, helping residents understand their services and guide them to appropriate program resources.

    + Assist in creating and distributing outreach materials (e.g., flyers, fact sheets, presentations, digital content) that explain complex program information in plain language.

    + Monitor outreach activities and provide reporting to assess effectiveness and recommend improvements.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree

    + 5+ years of experience planning and conducting local outreach events, coordinating event logistics and staffing, and/or implementing high-visibility public program communications.

    + Residency in the greater Raleigh or Charlotte area with frequent travel across the region, including occasional work outside regular business hours and overnight travel.

    Professional Skills

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).

    + Experience with state-level communications (e.g., DOT, DMV, or other public-facing programs) is a plus!

    + Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated success building relationships with clients, partners, and community stakeholders.

    + Strong writing skills with knowledge of plain language principles and experience simplifying complex program information for diverse public audiences.

    + Superior organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

    + Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in fast-moving environments.

    + Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

    + A team-oriented mindset with adaptability and a can-do attitude.

    Preferred Skills/Experience

    + BS or BA degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, or related field.

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    + Comfort with virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

    + Ability to confidently engage with the public and community stakeholders; outgoing and approachable demeanor that fosters trust and connection.

    + Experience setting up and managing exhibit booths at public events, including organizing materials, signage, and on-site logistics.

    **Pay Range** - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

    The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

    $73,722.00 - $125,327.00
