Now hiring! Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer

    Freeport, TX

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer to join our Petrochemicals (CP) team in Freeport, TX.

The Petrochemicals division is the starting point of BASF’s petrochemical-based value chains throughout the regions. The division manufactures and markets a broad portfolio of high-quality basic chemicals and tailored specialties for internal and external customers.

    Where the chemistry happens...

As a Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. You’ll leverage your technical experience and problem-solving mindset to enhance equipment performance, optimize maintenance strategies, and drive long-term asset reliability.

Make an impact where reliability meets innovation. Join a team dedicated to improving equipment reliability and driving maintenance excellence in complex industrial operations. Whether your background is in chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, or another process-intensive industry, your expertise will contribute to safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.

    Come create chemistry with us!

As a Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you create chemistry by...

+ Championing reliability excellence by analyzing predictive and preventative maintenance data, recommending improvements to inspection plans, maintenance frequency, and capital investments.

+ Leading cross-functional reliability review meetings with operations, maintenance, and asset management teams to identify opportunities for improvement and share best practices.

+ Driving root cause analysis investigations and maintaining the Reliability Incident and Project Tracker to ensure continuous learning and accountability.

+ Collaborating with engineering teams to review Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) assessments and recommending updates on inspection scope, repair plans, and capital investment needs.

+ Identifying and prioritizing “Bad Actor” equipment, leading projects to eliminate recurring reliability issues and minimize downtime.

+ Enhancing predictive maintenance programs by reviewing vibration, lubrication, and condition-monitoring results, adjusting strategies to improve effectiveness and reduce costs.

+ Leading and participating in FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analyses) for critical equipment and implementing updates based on findings.

+ Partnering with project and turnaround teams to ensure reliability considerations are built into capital projects, upgrades, and shutdown plans.

+ Supporting maintenance and asset management teams in developing long-term strategies for reliability improvements and cost optimization.

    If you...

+ Bring 10+ years in chemical, petroleum, or process-intensive industry.

+ Have 5 to10 years of hands-on experience in maintenance, reliability, or plant operations—ideally in chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, or other process industries.

+ Demonstrate proven experience facilitating Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations.

+ Possess a solid understanding of equipment criticality assessments, maintenance strategies, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices.

+ Are familiar with reliability and maintenance tools such as SAP, AWB Workbench, OnePM, JUMP, SharePoint, PSAIM, Apollo RCFA software, PRiSM, or Power BI.

+ Understand capitalization and expense processes related to maintenance and reliability projects.

+ Lead through influence and collaborate across diverse teams and disciplines.

+ Communicate effectively, analyze data, and organize work with a continuous improvement mindset.
