Network Engineer

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university with networking experience, including VLANS, subnetting and routing protocols OR Associates degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year experience in networking experience, including VLANS, subnetting and routing protocols OR three (3) years networking experience, including VLANS, subnetting and routing protocols.
Demonstrable experience with basic switched and wireless networking architecture including VLANS, subnetting, NAT, routing protocols.
Experience with using tools like Wireshark to diagnose protocol issues and identify causes of non-hardware communication failure.
Must possess a valid, clean NYS driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Aruba, Extreme and/or Cisco networking equipment. Security+, CCNA or comparable product line certification.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Network Engineer reports to the Managing Network Engineer and performs the following duties:
• Detailed knowledge of TCP/IP networks. Must have a clear understanding of wireless networks.
• Detailed knowledge of network security, ACLs, stateful firewalls, packet-shaping, and traffic prioritization, IPS, and IDS.
• Configure, deploy, maintain, and repair all network gear, including but not limited to switches, routers, firewalls, access points, and responsible network servers.
• Perform wired, wireless, and telephony network diagnostics, including but not limited to bandwidth analysis, routing issues, loop detection, and performance or quality issues.
• Standing up site-to-site networking, including but not limited to VPNs, IPSec tunnels, and ISP point-to-point connections.
• Configure, deploy, maintain, and repair all telephony, including but not limited to Teams phone, Audiocodes SBC, and remaining Avaya gear.
• Provides 24/7 support for the main campus and all satellite locations based on priority and needs assessment. Assessment is determined by the Senior Network Engineer and the CIO.
• Provides essential UPS support to affirm adequate power is supplied to networking and telephony gear.
• Performs infrastructure implementation of copper and fiber cabling, including but not limited to termination, keystone installation, conduit runs, utility/junction boxes, pull boxes, line certification, fusion splicing, repair, and replacement.
• Provides network administration, analysis, design, and programming functions for all data and voice network systems.
• Provides software programming functions for all data and voice network systems.
• Provides planning, implementation, and support for all data and voice network systems.
• Provides planning, implementation, and support for securing all data and voice network systems.
• Provides comprehensive technical documentation for all data and voice network systems.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
• Must operate a college vehicle as needed during performance of the above job responsibilities.
This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $60,000-$65,000.
