    License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia Class C driver's license and valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. Valid Georgia Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicators license (Pesticide CAT.24) required within 90 days.Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Training and/or education in landscape maintenance, horticulture, or turf grass management preferred.Experience Qualifications: Two years of experience as a foreman or in a similar role of a grounds maintenance crew in a large-scale commercial, municipal, or industrial landscape maintenance operation required.Skills Qualifications: Ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; ability to manage and lead work crews; ability to use landscape maintenance equipment; ability to identify and maintain various plants; ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing; ability to write work orders; ability to complete assignments and tasks in a timely manner; and ability to read and follow herbicide application instructions.Primary Responsibilities: Ensure completion of landscape and grounds maintenance and other assignments for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) properties through the supervision of groundskeepers and private contractors.1. Work as directed in planning, executing, and reporting landscape maintenance and construction projects around and in school system buildings.a. Plan and direct crew assignments. b. Assist the Grounds Site Project Manager with planning and directing contractors.c. Plan the maintenance of vegetation by fertilizing, pruning, watering, and transplanting as needed. d. Control pests through various methods including the safe application of pesticides.e. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records as directed.2. Assume responsibility for materials, supplies, and equipment issued for work by crews in assigned zone.a. Account for all zone tools, machinery, materials, and supplies issued. b. Maintain all zone tools and machinery in proper working order.c. Remain knowledgeable of the location of all zone tools, materials, and machinery.3. Execute projects by utilizing a variety of power tools appropriate to grounds maintenance.a. Utilize mowers, trimmers, pruners, cleaners, sprayers, and blowers.b. Utilize tools appropriate for ground preparation and planting.4. Maintain and improve groundskeeping skills and abilities.a. Maintain knowledge of current pesticide procedures and hazards.b. Learn how to utilize new equipment safely.c. Learn how to utilize unfamiliar equipment safely.5. Coordinate and cooperate with other members in completing assignments.a. Train groundskeepers in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and materials necessary for completion of assignments and projects. b. Train groundskeepers in proper safety procedures when using power tools, hazardous supplies, or in other dangerous circumstances.c. Advise people in the line of supervision concerning the efficient and safe operations of the department.6. Cooperate with and maintain a positive relationship with all other district employees.a. Maintain open lines of communication and cooperation.7. Be on call for necessary work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.8. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
