    Description

    SUMMARY:

    Makes repairs and adjustments to aircraft on the flight line and in the field. Perform parts replacement to assist in troubleshooting of systems to isolate and correct discrepancies. Requires knowledge of systems and applicable manuals and instructions in type aircraft. Provides guidance and assistance in resolving / repairing discrepancies discovered by Plane Captains during required inspections. Participates in flight operations as an In-Flight Maintenance Observer once qualified and as directed by supervisory personnel. May assist the Functional Check Pilots in preflight and post flight inspections of aircraft. May be required to use hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties.

     

    Knowledge of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Manufacturer Manuals and Company Instructions. Must have a good working knowledge of type aircraft maintenance and be able to demonstrate maintenance skills and knowledge of aircraft systems. Must be able to read, speak, write legibly and understand the English language. Must pass FM flight physical as required. Must be qualified and certified as a Plane Captain or become qualified and certified within 120 days after assuming the position. Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention. Perform corrosion control cleaning and removal as required utilizing precautions in the SDS for materials utilized to complete these tasks.

    JOB DUTIES:

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    + Performs high power ground turn operational checks following maintenance or engine rinses in accordance with applicable maintenance instructions.

    + Perform Daily and Turnaround Inspections in accordance with inspection criteria on aircraft assigned for Maintenance Turns or Functional Check Flights.

    + Accompany Functional Check Pilots and serve as In-Flight Maintenance Observer during functional check flights, ACI or Depot ferries, and aircraft recovery missions.

    + May be required to perform component changes, inspection and repairs on downed aircraft here or away from NAS Whiting Field.

    + Provide guidance to lower-level mechanics by sharing technical knowledge to enhance accomplishment of assigned tasks.

    + Use measuring equipment and other test equipment to troubleshoot, adjust, or install aircraft or engine accessories.

    + Monitor progress of work being performed on assigned aircraft.

    + Coordinate with supervision and Quality Assurance to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.

    + Responsible for adhering to the Tool Control Program.

    + Maintain cleanliness of the work center and assigned work area

    + Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.

    + Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.

    + Required to perform Collateral Duty Inspector functions.

    + Document work accomplished on government and company electronic and/or manual Information Systems.

    + Must possess personal tools required to perform the work in the classification.

    + May be required to remove and reinstall cowlings, doors and panels to perform the duties of the job classification.

    + Pursuant to the specific provisions of the CBA, at the discretion of management, may be requested to perform the duties of Lead.

    + Monitor and assist the line move crew when operating inside the hangar.

    + Assist in ensuring the safety, security, inventory and preservation of Government owned and Company owned equipment.

    + Perform other related duties within the job classification.

    + May be required to perform CDQAR functions when qualified and certified.

    Working Environment:

    The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment which is typical of an office setting. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

    Physical Activities:

    This classification involves aircraft operations in-flight in varying conditions of weather and natural daylight. Activity is usually accomplished in a cockpit environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with flight activities. Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, extensive walking and working in tiring uncomfortable positions. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + **Education / Certifications**

    + FAA Airframes & Power Plants License (A&P) required.

    + Initial and Annual Flight Physicals.

    + Aviation Physiology Training (formal schooling required)

    + CDQAR/CDI (formal schooling required)

    + A/C Plane Captain Certification Flight

    + Control Rigging Certification Aircraft

    + Tum-up Certification

    + Hydraulic Fluid Sampling Certification Aircraft

    + Towing Certification

    + GSE Licensing (formal schooling required)

    + Airfield Operators License Valid State

    + Operators License

    + Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

    + Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

    + **Experience**

    + FAA Airframes & Power Plants License (A&P) required.

    + Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of documented experience as a practicing aircraft mechanic (either fixed wing or helicopter), three (3) years of which must have been on AW119/TH-73 or rotary aircraft.

    + Must pass Flight Physical prior to assuming this position.

    + During the first 30 days after assuming this position, must pass Aviation Physiology Training.

    + Must meet any other qualification standards imposed by the government contract not covered by this agreement.
