Job Description
The Director of Network Engineering and Operations will own the creation and design of networking and telecom initiatives for a large health system in NC. This leader will have the opportunity to work directly with executive leadership to bring to life several large projects. They are looking for someone that has the hands on experience creating the strategy and then overseeing the execution. This role is not primarily people management and while hands on engineering background is a requirement, there is not any hands on delivery work in this role. There will be two managers reporting to this Director, one for both the networking and telecom team. There are about 20 people that will roll up to them through those managers but over 200 members of the infrastructure department. As they create strategy, they will work heavily with the cybersecurity and clinical informatics leadership. To accomplish these initiatives they will need to be an industry and healthcare expert. The main initiatives they will be focused on are development of AI environment and new AI call centers, creation of cloud infrastructure environment (hybrid cloud environment), advancing their network and telecom presence, creating effective telehealth environment, and redesigning data centers.

This role has the opportunity for growth and immeasurable patient impact. This is a hybrid role, they must be onsite in North Carolina 3-4 days per week. Most directors are onsite almost everyday.
Job Description:
Strategy & Roadmap Develop and manage multi‑year plans for network infrastructure upgrades and enhancements, ensuring alignment with business goals and IS team roadmaps.
Infrastructure & Performance Design and maintain wired/wireless networks that meet performance, security, and scalability needs. Provide secure connectivity across data centers, cloud environments, and enterprise systems.
Collaboration & Governance Partner with stakeholders to support organizational objectives, standardize network services, and ensure compliance with ITSM processes and governance.
Security & Reliability Implement robust security protocols, monitor KPIs, and conduct regular testing to identify vulnerabilities. Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to safeguard systems and ensure regulatory compliance.
Automation & Innovation Drive efficiency through automation of provisioning, monitoring, and incident response. Adopt emerging technologies to continuously improve operations.
Service Delivery Foster an agile, collaborative environment. Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and a culture of service excellence that exceeds customer expectations.
Financial Management Develop and monitor budgets, assess total cost of ownership, and benchmark services to optimize value and manage costs effectively.

Skills and Requirements
Must Haves:
-Director level networking experience, if only manager level- at least 5 years of high level strategy focus in role. Most managers will not work for this role due to nature of day to day responsibilities not aligning.
- At least 4 years of Healthcare IT experience
-Experience designing the enterprise networking strategy.
-History of successfully managing enterprise network systems and services in a large, multi-site, geographically diverse organization (15k+ network nodes, 10,000+ employees).
-Forward looking telecom experience
-Extensive experience in network design and implementation with expert level knowledge of network architecture, protocols and technologies.
-Experience with cloud networking, virtualized environments, and data center operations. Strong understanding of network security principles.
-Clear ability to make high level decisions
-Experience managing large teams
-Bachelor's Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information technology, or related field is required. Plusses:
-Active CCNP, CCIE or equivalent certification
