This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of ASME Section XIII, ASME Section IX, and company welding procedures. The TIG Welder plays a critical role in ensuring Flow Safe's products meet strict code, safety, and performance standards through precision fabrication, adherence to quality processes, and collaboration with Quality Assurance personnel.
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Perform TIG welding operations on stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy materials used in the manufacturing and repair of Flow Safe safety relief valves.
+ Follow ASME Section XIII and ASME Section IX codes, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and PQR (Procedure Qualification Records) requirements.
+ Prepare, align, and fit valve components prior to welding using appropriate jigs, fixtures, and blueprints.
+ Verify joint geometry, alignment, cleanliness, and fit-up prior to welding.
+ Ensure all welds comply with ASME, API, and Flow Safe quality standards.
+ Interpret and apply engineering drawings, weld symbols, and dimensional tolerances accurately.
+ Perform precision welds that meet or exceed visual inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) acceptance criteria.
+ Maintain accurate weld traceability records, including welder logs, heat numbers, and inspection documentation.
+ Collaborate with Quality Control and Quality Assurance teams to ensure weld integrity and support valve testing and certification.
+ Maintain welding tools, torches, and gas systems in safe, calibrated, and optimal working conditions.
+ Cut, machine, and prepare pipe and valve components to specified dimensions per engineering drawings.
+ Participate in welder performance qualifications, procedure qualifications, and ongoing skills improvement activities.
+ Follow all Flow Safe safety policies and regulatory requirements, including PPE, and hot work
+ Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and safety.
Qualifications/Requirements:
+ 3-5 years of TIG welding experience in a pressure vessel, valve, or precision manufacturing environment.
+ Ability to interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
+ Familiarity with ASME, API 527, and NBIC standards is highly desirable, not necessary
+ Strong commitment to quality, precision, and safety.
+ In-depth knowledge of TIG (GTAW) welding techniques for stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy materials.
+ Working understanding of ASME Section XIII (Safety Relief Valves) and ASME Section IX (Welding Qualifications). Desired not necessary.
+ Familiarity with API 527, NBIC, and other applicable welding and valve manufacturing standards. Desired not necessary.
+ Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and dimensional tolerances.
+ Knowledge of NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) methods and visual weld inspection criteria.
+ Basic machining and fitting knowledge related to valve components and pressure-retaining assemblies.
Education Requirements:
+ High school diploma or GED required; trade school or welding certification preferred.
Key Competencies:
+ Demonstrated ability to produce clean, consistent, and code-compliant welds under minimal supervision.
+ Strong mechanical aptitude with attention to precision and detail.
+ Skilled in the setup, torches, and gas systems.
+ Competent in measuring tools and instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
+ Effective documentation and recordkeeping for weld traceability and quality compliance.
+ Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to identify and correct welding or fit-up issues.
+ Ability to maintain focus and precision during repetitive or high-specification welding tasks.
+ Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, technical standards, and safety procedures.
+ Work collaboratively with Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and teams.
+ Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all work activities.
+ Willingness to participate in ongoing training and certification programs as required by Flow Safe and ASME standards.
Organizational Expectations:
+ Safety - Shows concern for safety, identifying hazardous or potentially hazardous situations and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe environment for self and others.
+ Quality - Follows up to ensure high quality output, takes action to solve quality problems or communicate quality issues to management.
+ Teamwork - Works collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals and treats others with respect and dignity.
