Position Summary
TE Connectivity’s **Aerospace, Defense & Marine (AD&M)** division is seeking an experienced **Staff Manufacturing Engineer** to join our team in **Mount Joy, PA** .
In this hands-on leadership role, you will drive the design, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for precision electrical connectors used in aerospace and defense applications. You’ll work closely with production, tooling, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure robust, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
This role directly supports advanced manufacturing technologies including **manual and automated contact insertion, crimping, impact cold forming, pressing, and bonding** — making it ideal for an engineer experienced in connector assembly and high-reliability production environments.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead **process design, development, and validation** for new and existing connector manufacturing operations.
+ Drive **continuous improvement** in safety, quality, delivery, and cost through **Lean and Six Sigma** methodologies.
+ Develop and maintain process documentation, including **PFMEAs** , **control plans** , and **standard work** instructions.
+ Optimize **assembly, cold forming, die designm and press operations** to enhance yield, throughput, and OEE.
+ Identify and implement **automation and semi-automation opportunities** to reduce variability and improve labor efficiency.
+ Support **design-for-manufacturing (DFM)** efforts during new product introduction.
+ Lead **root-cause analysis** and implement corrective actions for process deviations and nonconformances.
+ Collaborate with **maintenance and tooling** teams to ensure equipment reliability and technical readiness.
+ **Prepare business cases and cost-benefit analyses to justify new capital investments** , ensuring alignment with ROI targets, operational strategy, and capacity planning.
+ Justify, specify, and support the installation of **new capital equipment** to advance manufacturing capabilities.
What your background should look like
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or related technical discipline).
• 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a high-mix, precision assembly environment.
• Strong background in stamping, impacting, high speed contact stitching, or metal forming processes preferred.
• Preferred experience in contact insertion, crimping, and automated connector assembly machines within the electrical connector industry.
• Hands-on experience with press-fit, bonding, and automated assembly systems.
• Advanced expertise in CAD modeling and design (Creo or SolidWorks), including the creation of tooling, fixtures, and detailed manufacturing layouts.
• Demonstrated ability to justify and secure capital investment through data-driven analysis, ROI modeling, and strategic planning in a manufacturing environment.
• Deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and SPC; Green Belt required, Black Belt preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a focus on cross-functional collaboration.
• Familiarity with Import and Export process for production tooling in ITAR facility is a plus.
• Ability to lead complex projects independently and mentor junior engineers or technicians.
• Experience with industrial robots and vision systems is a plus.
• Working experience in SAP or other ERP systems is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
