Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations for Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering (MPDE), the Director of Cable Assembly (CA) MPDE will define and execute a manufacturing strategy for the business unit’s Cable Assembly portfolio. With a team of approximately 30 engineers, primarily in manufacturing and R&D facilities in China, Mexico, and the Philippines, this position will work cross-functionally with the Product Management, Product Development, Quality, and Operations teams to develop both manufacturing processes for AI and Data Center Power and Cable components to meet the business needs around product performance, quality, and cost expectations.
The role will impact the business by developing diverse engineering talent and manufacturing technologies in a fast-paced, dynamic market, expanding our market position, and promoting growth.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead the Cable Assembly Manufacturing & Process Development Engineering (MPDE) team to define and implement advanced manufacturing strategies that meet both short-term and future needs.
+ Oversee resource planning, technical risk mitigation, and cost management to ensure on-time new product development.
+ Partner closely with plant operations to transition new processes into high-volume production smoothly and efficiently.Collaborate cross-functionally (Product, Quality, R&D, and Operations) to align engineering initiatives with broader business goals.
+ Serve as a voting member of project review and approval committees, ensuring execution integrity and identifying gaps or risks.
+ Set performance goals that support business strategy, focusing on capability development, efficiency, and productivity improvements.
+ Develop a strong engineering talent pipeline, emphasizing skill growth, mentorship, and succession planning.
+ Lead cost-reduction initiatives by aligning teams to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-cost (DFC) principles.
+ Represent the MPDE function during customer audits and manufacturing reviews; present updates and strategies to senior leadership.
What your background should look like:
Experience:
+ 10+ years leading teams in product and process development, especially in medium- to high-volume manufacturing environments.
+ 8+ years of hands-on experience in developing, validating, and scaling manufacturing processes.
+ Proven success driving organizational change and building high-performing teams.
+ Previous experience in cable/connector manufacturing is a plus but not required.
Technical Skills:
+ Deep knowledge of manufacturing technologies: automation, molding, stamping, plating, machining, and assembly.
+ Familiarity with materials (e.g., metal alloys, resins), and production methods related to cable assemblies.
+ Solid foundation in manufacturing quality systems, Six Sigma principles, and root-cause analysis tools.
+ Experience working with and negotiating equipment suppliers.
Leadership & Business Acumen:
+ Strong ability to align engineering strategies with business goals and customer requirements.
+ Skilled at influencing across functions and cultures; able to lead global, multicultural teams.
+ Comfortable managing multiple complex projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
+ Proven ability to mentor and coach team members to elevate performance.
Education & Tools:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required; Master’s preferred.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
+ Able and willing to travel 20–35% internationally.
