Amazon Prime Air seeks an experienced Principal Compliance Manager to lead and oversee comprehensive compliance programs across our drone delivery operations. This senior role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance strategies that ensure Amazon Prime Air's adherence to aerospace regulations, material and product safety requirements, internal procedures, and international standards. The successful candidate will serve as the primary compliance authority for Prime Air, working closely with engineering teams, operations leadership, and regulatory bodies to maintain the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. As Prime Air expands its drone delivery operations across multiple regions, this role will be instrumental in navigating evolving regulatory frameworks and ensuring seamless compliance across all operational jurisdictions.
The role involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders to ensure that all Prime Air aircraft, components, and operational procedures meet or exceed regulatory standards and Amazon's internal requirements. The Principal Compliance Manager will lead and advise across multiple disciplines (delivery operations, safety, internal manufacturing, and design) to maintain compliance documentation and advise on training programs to ensure all team members understand and follow required procedures. They will also interface in an advisory role with aviation authorities and certification bodies, maintaining relationships and representing Prime Air's interests in compliance matters.
Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.
Key job responsibilities
* Ensure compliance with federal safety regulations and standards in conjunction with our commercial drone delivery program
* Investigate noncompliance concerns and recommend preventive measures
* Oversee compliance monitoring systems and conduct comprehensive risk assessments
* Establish and maintain governance frameworks that align with aviation authorities' requirements across operating regions
* Coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure all Prime Air aircraft, components, and operational procedures meet or exceed regulatory standards
* Lead and advise across multiple disciplines to maintain compliance documentation and develop training programs
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 10+ years of risk management, audit, legal, compliance, operations, or a similar discipline experience
- Experience with cross functional project or program delivery
- Experience working cross-functionally with tech and non-tech teams
- 5+ years of advising and influencing executive leadership experience
- Deep expertise in compliance, including thorough knowledge of aviation regulations, drone operational requirements, and certification processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Experience influencing multiple stakeholders and leading cross functional teams across geographies and business units
- Experience with regulatory submissions to aviation authorities
- Proven track record of implementing successful compliance programs in complex technical environments
- Experience navigating ambiguous regulatory landscapes
- Experience with unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) regulations and certification processes
- Strong background in audit processes and risk management methodologies

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $214,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
