**Pay Range:** $20.19 - $28.52 per hour
Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. Summary:
The Study Counselor supports an NIH-funded smoking cessation trial that will test new treatment strategies for ‘practice quitting’ among individuals who are not yet ready to quit. The study has a 5-year timeline and will involve delivering treatment and assessing changes in smoking status among a nationwide sample of 780 participants. The Study Counselor will deliver ‘Practice Quitting’ and Motivational Interviewing counseling, with all sessions conducted via phone or videoconference. The position allows the opportunity to work remotely 2-3 days per week with manager approval. The position periodically requires some evening or weekend hours to reach participants during their preferred time for study counseling. Required Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree with prior related work experience in related field (e.g., mental health counseling, social work, or health education)
• May require 6-8 weeks training depending on study protocols
• Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact with study participants
• Excellent coordination, time management, and organizational skills
• Self-direction and initiative to achieve team and individual goals
• Demonstrates high-level communication and active listening skills
• Demonstrates dependability, flexibility, and professional demeanor
• Demonstrates basic computer skills
• Ability to develop rapport with a diverse pool of research participants
• Ability to navigate sensitive topics and maintain confidentiality of participants
• Ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary team settings
• Ability to attend to detail and follow through on tasks
• Availability to work evenings, overnight and weekends if called for under the study protocols

• Master’s Degree
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for delivering study-related behavioral treatment.
• Assist with development of treatment materials and participant recruitment
• Identifies oneself, establishes rapport, and communicates with study participants in an empathetic and informative professional manner.
• Conducts initial and follow-up counseling sessions with study participants.
• Maintain study procedure documentation.
• Assists with development of study-related treatment materials.
• Assists with study recruitment activities.
• Maintains respect for participants and participant confidentiality.
• Communicates effectively with study team members.
• Attends regular team meetings.
• Troubleshoots field issues when necessary.
• Uses discretion to resolve issues when unplanned events arise.
