Description

We are seeking an entry-level Accounts Payable Clerk to support our finance team in San Diego. This Contract-to-Hire opportunity is ideal for someone who has a degree in accounting/finance and is looking to gain hands-on experience in Accounts Payable within a mission-driven nonprofit environment. You’ll receive training and mentorship while assisting with essential AP tasks that keep our operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify basic invoice details and match them against purchase orders

• Assist in processing payments, including check runs and preparation of supporting documentation

• Help research and resolve simple invoice discrepancies (pricing, missing information, etc.)

• Monitor vendor accounts and flag opportunities for early-pay discounts

• Support the organization of student and miscellaneous payments and prepare them for deposit

• Generate basic reports or summaries as requested by the accounting team

• Maintain accurate records and assist with general accounting/admin tasks as needed

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

• Coursework or internship experience in Accounts Payable, accounting, or financial operations preferred

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and willingness to learn

• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel; exposure to financial systems (Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) is a plus

• Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and work collaboratively across teams

• Some prior AP experience (internships, part-time work, or academic projects) is helpful but not required
