Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

Join our team as a Diesel Mechanic, where you will manage and maintain a fleet of approximately 20 trucks and 60 trailers. This role involves performing essential maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our vehicles.

Responsibilities

+ Conduct DOT inspections on vehicles.

+ Replace brakes, tires, and DPF filters.

+ Perform suspension work as necessary.

+ Engage in welding and fabrication work to repair flooring.

+ Top off vehicle fluids as required.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in diesel mechanics.

+ Ability to conduct DOT inspections.

+ Expertise in performing preventive maintenance (PM) on brakes, oil, axles, lights, and flooring/walls.

+ Skill in welding and fabrication.

+ A minimum of 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic.

+ Previous experience in preventive maintenance on diesel equipment.

+ Possession of personal tools up to 1/2 inch.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Possession of a CDL A is beneficial.

+ ASE certification is advantageous.

Work Environment

The position is based in a metal recycling facility where you may occasionally work in varying weather conditions. The standard workweek is 45 hours, with a preference for working until at least 5 PM. Uniforms and protective gear are provided.

This is a Permanent position based out of South Bend, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $58240.00/yr.

- Weekly pay with bonus structure on top of base pay

-- last years average was 15% on top of base - 4 factors going into this though: division, last months profitability, pounds shipped prior week, and safety

- Medical, dental, vision, prescription drug insurance, etc.

- 401k with company matching program

- HSA with company contribution program

- Profit sharing program (after 1000 hours worked) - 8% of pre-tax earnings for the year

- Tuition reimbursement program up to $5k with maintaining a C average (effective after 6-months of employment)
