Job Title: Lead Building Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Building Engineer to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across our assigned properties. This role is crucial in supporting the implementation and supervision of engineering programs, including preventive and corrective maintenance, energy management, and staff development.
Responsibilities
+ Supervise maintenance staff and assign tasks in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
+ Perform hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
+ Conduct regular inspections of mechanical equipment rooms and building systems.
+ Implement and improve preventive maintenance programs and safety procedures.
+ Coordinate maintenance efforts with contractors and vendors.
+ Maintain accurate engineering reports, equipment manuals, and as-built drawings.
+ Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company policies.
+ Respond promptly to emergency situations and tenant concerns.
+ Maintain ongoing communication with tenants, property management, and vendors.
+ Ensure mechanical rooms and equipment are properly labeled, clean, and safe.
+ Participate in staff performance reviews and training initiatives.
+ Administer inventory control systems.
+ Remain proficient in engineering standards and operational aspects of building systems.
+ Complete all mandatory compliance training and ensure staff participation.
Essential Skills
+ Hands-on experience with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
+ Proficient in troubleshooting and facilities maintenance.
+ Possession of a Universal Technician Certification for CFCs.
+ Appropriate trade licenses such as Journeyman or Master Electrician.
+ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in planning, implementing, and supervising engineering programs.
+ Ability to perform operational duties including rounds, assessments, and repairs.
+ Strong ethical standards and exceptional customer service skills.

Work Environment
This position requires working onsite at various properties from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with the expectation of working two Saturdays a month, which may involve a 6 AM to 2:30 PM shift depending on vendor schedules. The role involves maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $38.00/hr.
