    Description

    The Director of Environmental Health and Safety Director is responsible for directing and assisting in developing, implementing, maintaining and assuring safety programs and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This role involves conducting safety audits, training employees, and ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations within the food industry.

    REPORTS TO:

    Chief Human Resource and Compliance Officer

    ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    + Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create and oversee organizational safety programs that promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with regulations and standards.

    + Conduct Safety Audits and Inspections: Regularly evaluate and/or assist the organization to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.

    + Training and Education: Provide guidance for safety training sessions for staff and employees and ensure they are aware of safety procedures and protocols.

    + Food Safety Compliance: Knowledgeable of all local, state and federal food safety regulations, such as FDA and USDA standards and assisting FSQA to assurance that the standards and requirements are met.

    + Contractor Safety:ensure that all outside contractors are trained to follow all regulations according to the organization’s guidelines with EHS and FSQA standards.

    + Incident Investigation: Monitor the organization’s Investigation Workplace Accidents and Incidents Program to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

    + Risk Assessments: Track and ensure the conducting of Risk Assessments and the implementing of preventative measures to mitigate potential hazards.

    + Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the company complies with all relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations and serve as a liaison with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits and ensure timely reporting of any non-compliance issues.

    + Collaborate with Management: Work closely with senior leaders and plant managers to integrate safety and health considerations into business operations.

    + Monitor Technological and Regulatory Changes: Stay updated on new safety technologies and changes in regulations to assess their impact on company operations.

    + Environmental Monitoring: Overseeing environmental monitoring programs to ensure that the organization’s production environment meets safety standards.

    + Emergency Response: Developing and managing emergency response plans for EHS OSHA and EPA incidents, including wastewater and waste management.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field.

    + 10+ years of experience in an EHS role, with 5+ years in a leadership position

    + Knowledgeable of FSQA regulations and standards

    + Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM (preferred) in lieu of education

    + Extensive knowledge of EHS regulations and compliance standards.

    + Proven track record of successful EHS program development and implementation.

    + Strong leadership and team management skills.

    + Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    + Experience with sustainability and environmental impact assessments.

    + Minimum of 7 years of experience in EHS management.

    + Thorough understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.

    + Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to conduct thorough investigations and risk assessments.

    + Proficiency in EHS management software and data analysis tools.

    + Experience in developing and conducting EHS training programs.

    + Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

    + Strong organizational and planning skills.

    + The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and at times lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

    + This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (With or without corrective lenses)

    SAFETY:

    + Adhere to company safety policies and procedures

    + Wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) where needed

    + Immediately report any unsafe conditions or other safety-related issues

    Salary Description

    $110,000 - $130,000 (Depending on Experience)
