Note: Eligibility for benefits may vary by location and is determined by employment status Job Summary Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides medical secretarial and clerical support services. Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology to transcribe and prepare patient medical information, manuscripts, medical reports, abstracts and other materials as needed. Types a variety of materials from rough draft, some of which may be confidential in nature, and routes completed materials to appropriate individuals. Schedules and arranges patient consultations, schedules appointments with ancillary hospital departments for patient testing as needed, and generates a daily list of inpatients for assigned physician(s). Communicates regularly with all levels of medical staff, patients, hospital personnel as well as Wayne State University Medical School, outside agencies and the public in order to obtain and dispense information, coordinate activities, etc. Maintains calendar, schedules meetings, lectures, interviews and appointments, and completes travel arrangements for assigned physician(s). Answers and screens phone calls, greets and directs visitors, opens/prioritizes/distributes mail, prepares requisitions and other expense documents, and operates standard office equipment including fax machine, photocopier, etc. Qualifications : 1. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional college or vocational school coursework in secretarial science or related field preferred. 2. General knowledge of medical terminology. 3. One to two years of progressively more responsible clerical experience in order to establish work routines and priorities, and to exercise a moderate amount of independent judgment.
