    U. S. Steel has an immediate opening for a Process Control Engineer within the Process Control organization. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing process control hardware and software solutions in a heavy industrial environment. This role is onsite at our Mt. Iron, Minnesota location.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + The applicant will support production Distributed Control System (DCS) hardware and software applications, graphical HMI applications, and LAN communications. The applicant will be knowledgeable in industrial plant process control systems, including programming and technical support, preferably with some of the following types of control solutions: Emerson Ovation DCS, OPC Interface, Windows OS, Unix Solaris Systems, OpenVMS, Fortran, VB.Net, and Ladder Logic.

    + Ensuring the plant’s process control equipment is installed, upgraded, and maintained in the safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

    + Analyzing iron ore manufacturing processes and applying appropriate technology solutions.

    + Supporting the critical production systems in a timely fashion, troubleshooting problems and maximize operating efficiencies with minimal interruption.

    + 24/7 off-hours support including weekends and evenings as required.

    + Coordinating both the design and development efforts utilizing project management skills.

    + Working with systems that monitor the environmental compliance of iron ore production.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    + Applicants with a minimum of an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or Equivalent Work Experience will be considered.

    + Experience in at least one of the following computer languages: Fortran, C, or .NET

    + Experience with automated systems design, configuration, implementation including analog, digital control logic and graphic development, tuning, optimization, hardware maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.

    + Work within a team environment that promotes respect, and collaboration through two-way communication, encouraging new ideas and different perspectives that drive individual, team, and company success.

    + Electrical engineering knowledge, networking VMS and Windows based operating systems.

    + The ability to comprehend electrical drawings and schematics are desired skills as is the ability to use electrical and communications test equipment.

    + This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing. The salary range of $62,976 to $94,464 is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skill/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
