Job Description
Are you a hands-on individual who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and creative problem-solving? Join the Iowa Department of Transportation as a Sign Fabricator 1, where you’ll play a vital role in producing high-quality road signage that helps keep our communities safe and informed.

As a Sign Fabricator 1, your key responsibilities will be to:
+ Accurately apply layouts of text and symbols to road signs using blueprints and design specifications.
+ Perform silk screening techniques to produce durable, high-visibility signage.
+ Operate a squeeze roller to apply reflective sheeting to sign substrates.
+ Manage inventory and warehouse materials using a barcode radio system.
+ Experience utilizing a variety of tools, including tape measures, rollers, scissors, saws, drill presses, grinders, sanders, power tools, and shearers in the sign fabrication process.
+ Provide excellent customer service when interacting with internal and external clients.
+ Operate a forklift safely and efficiently. Unloading and storing raw materials such as plywood, reflective sign sheeting, and metal blanks.
+ Fills requests for signs, wraps and packs signs for shipment, and completes documentation to maintain inventory records.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
+ Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
+ Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor and occasionally lift items weighing up to seventy (70) pounds.
+ Ability to work in surroundings which may include machine noise, dirt, ink, and cleaning solvent fumes.
Safety & Compliance:
+ Understand and apply OSHA safety standards.
+ Familiarity with and ability to apply MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) information.
Shift Requirements: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
