Description of Work Unit
The College of Agricultural Sciences ( CAS ) is an integral part of the Colorado State University land-grant system. The CAS Dean’s Office is responsible for oversight in fulfilling the land-grant mission in agricultural sciences through teaching, research, community and economic outreach and engagement, in service to and in cooperation with Extension ( CSUE ) and the Agricultural Experiment Station ( AES ). The CAS Dean’s Office serves the college through executive level leadership determined by strategic plan, an oversight of the college’s initiatives in research, academic programs including programmatic curriculum oversight, student affairs including retention, student success and next destination placement, and student recruiting. The CAS Dean’s office provides central coordination of the college’s internal and external communication efforts, branding, marketing, and publication of materials for promotion. The CAS Dean’s office includes development and large gift cultivation and donor and alumni engagement, as well as information technology and networking services for the entire college. Position Summary
This position will help create, integrate, and administer physical and virtual servers, on premise and in the cloud (hybrid) infrastructure that is used for research to support the college’s strategic investments. The position will help manage the college’s research computing environment, including applications, clients, file systems, and research related Windows and Linux servers. The position will also be able to function in a Windows server environment and maintain client interconnectivity from Windows and Apple OS systems. This position requires someone who is reliable, responsible, ethical, and able to complete tasks with a team and independently with minimal supervision. The Research IT System Administrator must be able to provide outstanding customer service and represent the CAS IT Team through daily interactions with different user groups such as students, faculty, staff, and administration. On-call duties are shared and may occasionally require evening and weekend work.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the start date. The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology or related field and three years of equivalent experience.
+ Server system administration/management experience includes security, policy compliance, and exception processes.
+ Significant Linux systems experience including diagnosing errors and performance problems related to hardware, networking, and resource utilization.
+ Strong interoperability experience with Linux, Microsoft Windows (desktop and server), and MacOS.
+ Experience writing scripts to automate routine tasks.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills.
+ Demonstrated focus on Cybersecurity and protecting data and systems.
+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the start date. The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Experience configuring and/or administrating Active Directory, LDAP , DNS , Shibboleth, SMB , NFS , and SSH .
+ Experience/training in the deployment and support of VMWare and/or Hyper-V and/or Azure hosts and clients.
+ Scripting experience in languages such as Unix shell scripts (bash, sh), PowerShell, Perl, Python.
+ ITIL experience/training/certification.
+ Project management experience/training/certification.
+ Backup and disaster recovery experience.

+ Design, purchase, deploy, and maintain servers and services for the college’s research community.
+ Perform routine security updates and patches, utilizing appropriate tools to scan and to confirm compliance.
+ Account provisioning, software configuration and prerequisite installations,
+ Automate routine and repetitive tasks.
+ Support hardware and software of end-user research related workstations and devices
+ General Windows System Administration duties as they relate to the college, in a backup capacity. This includes, DHCP reservations, non-research server maintenance, DNS administration, Active Directory management, Group Policy, and other general Sys Admin tasks.

+ Meet with faculty & staff to design and implement technical solutions.
+ Maintain catalog of solutions locally and from across the university, recommend appropriate solutions based on this knowledge and the researchers’ needs.
+ Meet with college and university level IT staff to ensure service alignment.
+ Attend meetings and build relationships at department, college, university and system levels.
+ Attend vendor and peer institution trainings and meetings that will enhance the knowledge of services other Research IT groups are offering.
+ Ensure systems and processes align with CSU Cybersecurity Standards and Policies
+ Create necessary compliance documentation to demonstrate the College’s commitment to protecting research data.
+ Research and test new and emerging technologies for the benefit of the college.

Job Duty CategoryDatacenter Coordinator
Duty/Responsibility
+ Assist in the racking, cabling and physical troubleshooting and maintenance of all CAS IT servers, including interfacing with vendors to coordinate warranty repairs or installation.
+ Liaison with the University’s datacenter managers to schedule the installation and/or removal of server and related hardware, including managing capital asset tags when appropriate, and surplus property activities
+ Have a detailed understanding of the CASIT subnets in each datacenter and be able to work with the Division of IT’s NOC to manage VLANs on datacenter switches.
