    Clearance:Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance

     

    Work Schedule:Fulltime, On-site Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA; routine travel to <20%, CONUS/OCONUS

    Role Overview:

    The Senior Systems Engineer serves as the lead technical authority for designing, maintaining, and modernizing the Command and Control (C2) training networks supporting the Marine Operational Command and Control Training Team (MOCTT) and the Marine Corps Information Systems Training Centers (MISTCs). This position provides enterprise-wide engineering oversight across all MISTC locations and the MOCTT COC in Quantico, ensuring that every design, configuration, and integration activity aligns with MCEN standards, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and TECOM training objectives.

     

    The Senior Systems Engineer manages the engineering team at MISTC HQ and is responsible for the design, documentation, and sustainment of high-performance, secure, and repeatable network architectures for classrooms, COCs, labs, and virtualized training environments. This role ensures seamless support to C2 systems training during POI execution, BSTEX events, and technical exchanges. The Senior Systems Engineer also oversees collaborative tool integration and user-support functions for SharePoint, MS Teams, and Microsoft 365 environments used across the MOCTT–MISTC enterprise.

     

    General Skillset

     

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

    + Excellent communication and technical briefing skills

    + Strong analytical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting capability

    + Ability to manage engineering teams and coordinate cross-functional technical efforts

    + Ability to work independently or collaboratively in fast-paced operational environments

     

    Specific Skillset

     

    + Enterprise-level expertise in network engineering, virtualized environments, and C2 systems integration

    + Strong knowledge of MCEN requirements, RMF, DISA STIGs, and DoD cybersecurity best practices

    + Experience designing architectures for C2 training environments including C2 classrooms, COCs and watch floors, Simulation and virtualized C2 labs, Proficiency with Visio, architecture diagramming, system baselining, and configuration guide development

    + Familiarity with tactical networks, cross-domain requirements, and C2 systems such as GCCS-J, AFATDS, JADOCS, JWICS/SIPR/NIPR, CENTRIXS

    + Experience developing SOPs, configuration guides, and sustainment documentation for distributed technical teams

    + Expertise designing and administering Microsoft 365 collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams, Outlook) including, Site collections, Libraries/lists, Workflows, Templates, Master pages

    + Experience delivering end-user training for collaborative environments

    + Ability to translate complex engineering requirements into clear, repeatable technical procedures

    Requirements

    Education & Certifications

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

    + DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification required within 60 days (Security+ CE, GSEC, SSCP, etc.)

    + Advanced network or cybersecurity certifications preferred (CCNA, CySA+, Network+, etc.)

    Experience Requirements

    + 10+ years of experience in network engineering, systems engineering, or C2 systems integration

    + Experience supporting Marine Corps or Joint tactical networks preferred

    + Experience designing/sustaining geographically distributed training or operational networks

    + Experience managing technical teams and coordinating cross-site engineering efforts

     

    Role Integration

    The Senior Systems Engineer is fully embedded within theMISTC HQ enterprise support team, directly supporting the MOCTT Lead/PM and coordinating closely with:

    + Senior C2 Systems Analyst

    + Curriculum Development Lead

    + Faculty Development Lead

    + Senior Instructional Designers

    + Graphics/Media Specialists

    + MISTC Site Leads

    + Systems Engineers & Systems Administrators at all MISTC locations

    Key integration responsibilities include:

    + Leading the development of C2 training network architectures for all MISTC sites and the MOCTT COC

    + Managing a distributed team of Systems Engineers and Systems Administrators

    + Overseeing configuration management, cybersecurity compliance, and network standardization

    + Designing, documenting, and updating architectures for MEF-equivalent COC watch floor, MISTC classrooms and labs, BSTEX technical architectures

    + Serving as the technical authority for Microsoft 365/SharePoint/Teams collaboration environment design and governance

    + Providing direct support to major training events, BSTEX deployments, and technical reviews

    + Ensuring all enterprise network changes are reflected in SOPs, guides, and sustainment plans

Their engineering vision directly impacts every aspect of C2 training enabling realistic, reliable, and scalable network environments that support classroom instruction, field exercises, and simulation-based training across all MEF and MISTC locations.

     

    By maintaining cybersecurity compliance, designing user-friendly collaborative platforms, and ensuring consistent technical documentation across the enterprise, the Senior Systems Engineer strengthens the Marine Corps’ ability to train, rehearse, and execute complex C2 tasks in support of real-world operations. Their leadership ensures that instructors, analysts, and Marines have the stable, modern, and resilient technical infrastructure they need to succeed.
