    The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate’s skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.

     

    This position will oversee the work of a staff of supervisors, engineers and program managers responsible for overseeing the maintenance programs associated with FirstEnergy’s transmission line assets to comply with and in adherence to, all applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements. This entails working with all FirstEnergy Utilities (FEU) Operations personnel & providing technical support and subject matter equipment expertise of maintenance practices and methods, emergency response, construction methods, utility industry standards, and regulatory

     

    compliance requirements.

    Responsibilities include:

    + Promoting a safe work environment by ensuring all employees understand FirstEnergy policies and practices, actively participating in weekly safety meetings, completing all required safety training and engaging in safety reviews when on field assignments.

    + Creating a Diverse & Inclusive team environment where all employees are encouraged to express their opinions, having a questioning attitude, and providing input on ways to improve work practices.

    + Understanding of business initiatives and ability to contribute to the overall performance of the department and company.

    + Developing and maintaining FirstEnergy’s Transmission Line Maintenance Practices and Policies to be current and meet or exceed regulatory compliance and good utility practice.

    + Managing staff responsible for the following

    + Managing programs to meet annual budgetary allowances for both routine inspection and maintenance programs, enhanced work and initiatives.

    + Providing technical support for line maintenance related issues.

    + Managing and executing all aspects of regulatory required transmission line inspection programs which includes data collection for regulatory reporting.

    + Developing bid packages and competitively bidding all work.

    + Managing FE aerial inspection programs, collecting and evaluating as-found condition data in TAMI database and communicating with FEU Operations personnel to assure action is taken for resolution.

    + Managing FirstEnergy’s wood pole inspection program. Providing pole reject and reinforcement data to FEU Operations for remediation.

    + Managing structure coating specifications, material, and application standards. Overseeing and managing all field work related to the program including quality assurance checks.

    + Managing foundation inspection specifications, material, and application standards. Providing engineering review and sign-off of proposed structural repairs. Overseeing and managing all contractor field work related to the program.

    + Conducting field engineering inspections and providing engineering drawings to facilitate structure repairs caused by landslides, erosion, storm, or damage by the public or other emergency situations.

    + Providing technical input for Right-of-Way encroachments regarding electrical clearance concerns, public safety/welfare, maintaining access for maintenance and construction activities and maintaining the integrity of structures, guying, and related facilities.

    + Regularly engaging with or leading industry groups associated with transmission lines such as North American Transmission Forum (NATF) & Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

    + Providing leadership and be a vocal advocate for FirstEnergy’s Strategic Asset Management Plan and asset analytics.

    + Working directly with and representing FEU Operations interests in transmission line conditions, project prioritization and presentation of projects to management for line condition funding.

    + Participating in transmission equipment operation reviews and providing support for apparent cause investigations of line equipment failures, vegetation issues, storm damage and outside party involvement in outages.

    + Working with FEU Operations personnel to manage and prioritize line related inoperable equipment conditions on all transmission facilities.

    + Maintaining a strong working relationship with the FEU Operations transmission / line management teams at each operating company to support their daily work activities.

    + Supporting storm restoration activities by assigning employees field roles or back office support in the way of aerial patrols and as-found damage assessment or leading large-scale restoration efforts.

    + Identifying individual needs of employees for development purposes and providing practical opportunities for employees to grow in specific areas of interest.

    Qualifications include:

    + Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License (2) a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program preferred. In lieu of degree, minimum 10 years transmission line operation, maintenance, or other relevant experience will be considered.

    + Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in transmission line operation, maintenance, and / or construction experience.

    + A Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred .

    + Transmission Field Construction Experience is preferred.

    + Corporate or Regional Transmission Supervision is preferred.

    + Strong organizational, tactical & team building skills required.

    + Superior written and verbal communication skills required; Ability to effectively present complex subject matter to all levels of management and to outside stakeholders is a key job function.

    + Commitment to FirstEnergy's Safety Policies, the Accident Prevention Handbook & Manual of Operations required.

    + Knowledge and understanding of FirstEnergy storm process required.

    + Willingness to lead by example is required.

    + Ability to handle multiple assignments is required.

    + Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships required.

    + Strong in-depth knowledge of transmission line maintenance and construction with a desire to continue to develop breadth & depth of knowledge, skills, and perspective is required.

    + A willingness and an aptitude for training and mentoring other members of the staff is required.

    + Ability to develop effective working relationships at all levels of FirstEnergy.

    + Ability to travel across the FirstEnergy footprint & as needed outside the territory.

    + Ability to respond to emergencies during off hours.

    + Must be capable of driving projects and tasks to completion by evaluating conditions, assembling a team, and assigning proper resources.

    + Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines; Coach others in effective decision making.

    + Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access databases, TAMI and other applications.

    + Must be a team player who positively challenges those around him/her and is mentally flexible and cooperative.

    + Highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic leader capable of communicating, motivating, and driving workforces toward positive change and improvement.

    + Ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and FirstEnergy.

    FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.

     

    The estimated pay range for this role is $127,925- $180,600. The pay range for certain locations, including the state of New Jersey, include a 20% differential to account for an increased cost of living, making the pay range $153,510 - $216,720.
