The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) is the primary provider of public mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disability services for the City of Norfolk. A continuum of services spans from outreach and prevention through intensive psychiatric care, provided by highly clinically oriented service professionals with expertise in these service areas.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team and other vital programs. In this role, you’ll work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant pharmacy services that make a real difference in people’s lives.Key Responsibilities:
+ Assist the pharmacist in preparing, packaging, and distributing medications.
+ Perform clerical and administrative duties to support pharmacy operations.
+ Deliver pharmacy services to ACT and other agency programs as needed.

+ Virginia Board of Pharmacy regulations
+ DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) requirements
+ State and local laws
+ Agency policies and procedures
+ Train NCSB staff using the NCSB’s Medication Re-Packaging curriculum.
Department Hiring Salary Range: $42,629 - $49,023
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
+ Assists the pharmacist in preparing medications and filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications, correctly labeling containers, and accurately documenting pharmacy activities.
+ Maintains medication inventory by determining inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, and removing outdated medications. May assist and support the pharmacist on inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, verifying, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
+ Prepares and maintains well-documented pharmacy records as required by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), and Norfolk CSB agency requirements.
+ Packages medications as unit-dose and take-home items for delivery or self-administration.
+ Enters medication information and directions into the Electronic Health Record and other electronic databases. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves patient and prescription information to and from the computer.
+ Follows all internal and external policies regarding pharmacy operations.
+ Ensures pharmacy areas and Medication Rooms are maintained in a safe, clean, neat, and orderly condition by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
+ Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Reports any unsafe equipment or practices.
+ Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures. Maintains temperature logs of refrigerators within the pharmacy areas, agency Medication Rooms, and other areas as assigned.
+ Communicates effectively with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other agency staff to meet programmatic needs and maintain positive working relationships.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two-year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certifications may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
One year of experience preferred working with adults who are diagnosed with mental health and substance use disorders. Experience may include experience acquired in an educational setting or internship.
Additional Information & Requirements
+ Valid Driver's License not required but preferred.
+ Requires a current unrestricted Virginia Pharmacy Technician registration. Current unrestricted/active National Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred.
+ Current certification in basic first aid and CPR.

+ Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
