Minimum Qualifications
Education
+ Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field
+ Or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or GED and an additional two (2) years of experience in an administrative support position in a law enforcement setting.
Experience
+ Minimum of 4 years of experience in an administrative support position in a law enforcement setting.
Certification/Licensure
+ Ability to pass a background investigation and maintain eligibility to work within a law enforcement environment.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System, certification for Law Enforcement Database and maintain certification while in this job.
Preferred
+ Experience conducting law checks via electronic systems.

Job Summary
The Police Background Investigation Administration Specialist I provides administrative and clerical support to the Background Investigations Unit. The incumbent assists in the intake and processing of new applicants, handles administrative tasks for ongoing investigations, and acts as a liaison between applicants and Background Investigators. The Specialist I plays a critical role in maintaining accurate records, processing data, and ensuring timely communication between the Background Investigations Unit, Metro Transit Police departmental leadership, and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions
+ Provides administrative support to Background Investigators, including conducting application inquiries and reference checks as needed.
+ Schedules applicant appointments and maintains the Background Investigations Unit calendar.
+ Creates cases in the background investigation tracking system and prepares physical files for new applications.
+ Sends out background packets to qualified applicants; answers questions related to packet completion.
+ Receives and reviews new applications and background packets for completeness; communicates with applicants regarding incomplete or missing information.
+ Conducts preliminary law checks and other initial screening steps.
+ Responds to inquiries from applicants, other law enforcement agencies, and departmental staff.
Other Functions
+ Maintains organized electronic and physical filing systems for applicant records.
+ Assists in compiling reports, summaries, or data requests for departmental leadership.
+ Provides general office support to the Background Investigations Unit and the Office of Professional
+ Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.
