Must be trained or have 8 years’ experience in weapon fire control and optics. Examine the maintenance work of repairs, rebuilds or overhauls of fire control and optics equipment and supporting items. Diagnose the source of trouble and determine the extent of repairs required. Perform major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard fire control/optics items. Provides technical guidance on how to diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in fire control systems and related equipment at the field maintenance level. Determines root causes of non-conformances, take corrective action, and provides feedback on systemic problems.
Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities:
+ Examine the maintenance work of repairs, rebuilds or overhauls of fire control and optics equipment and supporting items.
+ Diagnose the source of trouble and determine the extent of repairs required.
+ Inspect work in progress; inspect and test the final product and approve the repairs.
+ Perform major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard fire control/optics items.
+ Read and understand blueprint drawings and work from those drawings.
+ Perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard fire control systems.
+ Prepare reports, information papers and other documents.
+ Performs field maintenance on laser range finders, ballistic computers, laser observation devices, laser designators, thermal imaging systems, periscopes, telescopes, auxiliary sights, aiming circles, image transfer assemblies, quadrants, mount assemblies, fire control support equipment, night vision devices, and test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
+ Provides technical guidance on how to diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in fire control systems and related equipment at the field maintenance level.
+ Determines the nature and extent of repairs required; disassembles and examines parts and assemblies for serviceability; replaces parts and assemblies as required.
+ Determines serviceability of parts; exercises initiative to maintain productive progress and accepts responsibility for the results.
+ Diagnoses and determines remedies for failures commonly encountered in the repair of fire control equipment with little or no supervision, using a variety of diagnostic techniques and practices.
+ Performs initial, in-process and final inspections.
+ Perform ECOD and ACOD inspections and verifies condition codes.
+ Determines root causes of non-conformances, take corrective action and provides feedback on systemic problems.
+ Performs routine inspections on safety and environmental controls and provides reports on safety, quality, and armament related issues.
Material and Equipment Directly Used:
+ Maintain and repair laser range finders, ballistic computers, laser observation devices, laser designators, thermal imaging systems, periscopes, telescopes, auxiliary sights, aiming circles, image transfer assemblies, quadrants, mount assemblies, fire control support equipment, night vision devices
+ Standard office equipment associated computer applications.
+ Various machine tools and measuring instruments.
+ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Steel Toe shoes are required.
Working Environment:
+ Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.
+ Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
+ Work requires prolonged standing at a maintenance table and periodic use of a solvent parts cleaning machine.
+ Dirt, dust, grease and oils are always present.
+ There can be exposure to chemicals that may burn and irritate the skin and eyes if proper personal protective equipment is not worn. Failure to follow appropriate safety procedures could result in cuts, bruises, shocks and strains.
+ Must comply with OSHA, EPA, installation fire prevention regulations and published company work rules.
+ May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
+ Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

+ The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
+ A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week) whoever must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.
Physical Activities:
+ Work requires standing, climbing, bending, and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Employee stands for long periods.
+ Frequently lifts equipment weighing 25 pounds. Occasionally assists lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
+ Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operates machines, such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
Qualifications
Minimuion Qualifications:
Education/Certificates:
+ High school diploma or GED and some technical training/college are required.
+ Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
+ Must be certified in accordance with an accredited military or civilian training program.
+ Must be knowledgeable in working with all types of fire control/optics and components.
+ Must possess excellent knowledge of fire control and optics items and electronic tools and procedures and possesses moderate knowledge of electronics operating principles.
+ Must be able to secure and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC), within six months of employment.
+ Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Experience and Skills:
+ Experience: Eight (8) years of experience is required.
+ Requires computer literacy.
+ Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction.
+ Able to effectively operate safely in a high-pressure work environment.
