    Join Our Team - Full-Time RN at UPMC North Surgery Center PACU

    Your Schedule:

    + 4 shifts per week, each 10 hours - giving you more days off to recharge.

    Your Impact:

    As a PACU nurse, you'll be at the heart of our outpatient surgery center, caring for patients both pre-operatively and post-operatively. You'll ensure safe recoveries, provide compassionate support, and be part of a fast-paced, collaborative team.

    What We're Looking For:

    + ✅ Minimum of 2 years RN experience (required)

    + Previous pediatric experience (preferred)

    Responsibilities:

    + Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers individual needs in a holistic manner.

    + Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues within an episode of care.

    + Practices solid communication skills to articulate and translate patient conditions to other care providers, negotiate, and recommend changes in patient care and unit practices.

    + Ensures patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.

    + Incorporates national professional organization, business unit, and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

    + Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable) and applies them in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff.

    + Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to guide them through episodes of care and transitions to other levels of care or home.

    + Supports the development of students, new staff, and colleagues; may serve as a preceptor.

    + Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts.

    + Identifies opportunities for quality improvement to colleagues and management.

    + Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care, identifies research issues or articles related to clinical specialty, discusses opportunities for quality improvement at multidisciplinary rounds, and influences patients' plans of care.

    + Communicates with peers and management any safety hazards identified in the workplace.

     

    The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages served by their assigned unit. They must also possess an understanding of growth and development principles across the life span, with the ability to assess patient data, interpret relevant information, and identify age-specific requirements to deliver care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

     

    + Experience: 2 years + strongly preferred. Peds experience preferred.

    + Education: BSN required

    + Skills & Abilities:

    + Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary/support staff, other departments, and patients/families

    + Work productively and effectively in a complex environment with multiple and changing priorities, including specialized equipment

    + Apply sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills in all aspects of patient care

    + Lead others in the application of the nursing process through strong critical thinking skills

    + Demonstrate mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

    + UPMC-approved national certification preferred

    + Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state where the facility is located, or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with that state

    + Act 31, 33, 34, 73 clearances

    + CPR required, based on AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire

    Required Certifications/Licensure:

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

    + Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located, or a multistate license issued under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC). Employees working under an out-of-state NLC license who later establish residency in the facility's state must apply for licensure within 60 days of changing residency.
