Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary
The Enterprise Architect is the principal architectural authority and visionary responsible for establishing the long-term technological strategy for HCA Healthcare. This role ensures that technology investments and architectural decisions deliver sustainable, transformative competitive advantage. The EA is accountable for setting the foundational policies, strategic principles, and multi-year roadmaps that govern all architectural domains (business, information, application, and technology) across the enterprise. This position requires deep engagement and collaboration with C-level executives and regulatory bodies to align architectural strategy with critical business outcomes, market disruption, and systemic risk mitigation. The EA is expected to be a recognized thought leader who drives organization-wide architectural transformation.
This role operates at the highest level of strategic planning, often initiating and guiding major capital innovation initiatives and enterprise-wide transformation programs. The candidate must not only be comfortable navigating diverse technical ecosystems but must also define the future state of these systems, adapting HCA's operating model to evolving business demands and establishing global architectural policy and best practices.
Major Responsibilities:
• Establish and Govern Enterprise Architecture Policy: Define the foundational architectural vision, long-term technological strategy (5+ years), and definitive principles and policies. Serve as the highest authority for maintaining the integrity and alignment of the entire enterprise architecture framework.
• Executive Strategic Advisory: Provide expert, trusted architectural guidance directly to C-level executives and the Board of Directors on major capital expenditure decisions, technological investments, M&A integrations, and strategic technological opportunities that redefine the business model.
• Architectural Policy Authority: Serve as the final arbiter and ultimate authority for the Architectural Review Board (ARB) or similar governance bodies, approving major architectural exceptions and setting the overall framework for how architectural standards and best practices are enforced across the enterprise.
• Transformation Leadership: Direct high-level architectural design for the most complex, systemic, and mission-critical enterprise transformations. Accountable for ensuring the final implemented solutions meet the highest standards of security, scalability, and cost-to-serve optimization across the entire HCA ecosystem.
• Disruptive Innovation Strategy: Proactively research and champion the adoption of disruptive technologies and architectural paradigms that can fundamentally redefine HCA's business and operating models, providing enduring competitive advantage.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders (e.g., business leaders, product owners, domain architects, security teams, infrastructure teams, and end-users) to understand needs, define requirements, and communicate architectural decisions and their implications.
• Systemic Risk Mitigation: Identify and assess enterprise-level architectural risks (e.g., security vulnerabilities, technical debt, single points of failure) that pose an existential threat to the organization, and propose large-scale, strategic programs to eliminate these systemic risks.
• Thought Leadership and Community Practice: Act as the organization's chief architectural thought leader, establishing and driving the Enterprise Architecture Community of Practice. Publish internal and external white papers and presentations to advance the organization's technological standing.
• Documentation and Communication: Create and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, including blueprints, models, and views. Prepare and present complex technical concepts and architectural recommendations to diverse audiences.
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field required
• Master's degree in a relevant field preferred
• Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in information technology required
• Minimum of 5-7 years in dedicated architecture roles (e.g., solution, domain, technical, or enterprise architect) required
• Proven experience in developing and implementing enterprise-level IT strategies, architectures, and roadmaps required
• Experience working in large, complex organizations, preferably in the healthcare industry preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

• Broad Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding across multiple architectural domains including application, data, infrastructure, security, and integration architecture. Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), modern architectural patterns (e.g., microservices, event-driven architecture, APIs), DevOps principles, and data management concepts. (Required)
• Financial and Business Mastery: Deep understanding of healthcare economics, regulatory shifts (e.g., HIPAA, value-based care), and the financial models that drive enterprise decisions, ensuring architectural solutions deliver measurable, transformative ROI. (Required)
