# Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
# Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead the development of seismic recommendations for design and construction projects. You will oversee research, prepare earthquake engineering reports, and participate directly in new business efforts involving specialized earthquake applications. Your expertise will help ensure seismic recommendations are safely integrated into applicable design and construction projects.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. \#LI-MJ1
# Major Responsibilities:
+ Plans and conducts independent earthquake work on facility seismic design/analysis work to include assessments of structures, systems, and components of facility on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit
+ Leads the development of seismic recommendations for design and construction projects utilizing ground motion models, seismic source models, and ergodic and non-ergodic seismic hazard analysis
+ Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals detailing the seismic hazard on project and understanding the risk associated with that hazard on the facility
+ Leads research on the behavior of the local fault systems, site response, and structural, system and component behavior
+ Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of personnel
+ Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management
+ Develops conceptual designs for earthquake projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements
+ Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
+ Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data. Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of earthquake aspects of the work
+ Mentors earthquake engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development
# Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Requires M.S. degree in geotechnical or structural engineering and (or international equivalent) and 10-12 years of relevant work experience, or a Ph.D. in geotechnical or structural engineering and 8-10 years of relevant work experience.
# Required Knowledge and Skills:
+ Experience in seismic analysis and modeling of soil-structure interaction for nuclear structures to include
+ Managing data for soil dynamics, structural dynamics, and seismic input motion for analyzing seismic response
+ Applying industry standards (ASCE 4, ASCE 43, and ANS) and implementing regulatory requirements of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
+ Using computer programs SHAKE2000, P-SHAKE, and SASSI2010 (or equivalents) and related Bechtel Standard Computer Programs such as GT-STRUDL, DATAN, and BSIMQKE (or equivalents)
+ Programming using MATLAB, MathCad, Fortran, Visual Basic, Python, and/or C++ Preparing licensing documents and supporting calculations for commercial nuclear power plants, including complying with NQA-1 requirements for data and software
+ Participating in technical meetings with expert consultants and regulatory personnel
+ Track record of publishing technical papers and presenting papers at technical conferences, and participating on relevant industry technical and codes & standards committees
+ Ability to work effectively on a geographically distributed team where interaction occurs by virtual means
+ P.E. registration
