    Job Title: Electrical Engineering Technician 1

    Job Description

    This position offers an opportunity to provide professional support and assistance to the Engineering Support organization within the Substation Engineering department. The role involves producing design drawings, material requests, and other documents necessary for the design of electrical power substations and facilities. Collaboration with internal and external departments to support project design is a key aspect of this role.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop preliminary plot plans, one-lines, and grounding drawings for substation scoping and Concept Design Document (CDD).

    + Draft work from engineers and as-built drawings using advanced CAD skills, adhering to organizational standards.

    + Produce design drawings, material requests, and other documents required for assigned projects.

    + Utilize CAD systems and other computer applications for design document production.

    + Consult and collaborate with engineering staff to review design concepts and provide technical input to resolve issues.

    + Perform detailed wire checking from substation schematics and wiring diagrams.

    + Review design projects for compliance with standards and policies, recommending corrections as needed.

    + Coordinate design availability with contracting firms and indoor design groups.

    + Facilitate meetings with switchboard electrician foremen to draft updates on design standards.

    + Assist with documentation of policy, process, and technical procedure changes.

    + Gather data from various sources to prepare for archival in storage systems.

    + Monitor designs to ensure workflow and availability.

    + Manage filing systems and ensure compliance with information security policies.

    + Provide recommendations for process improvements and assist with implementation.

    + Support design engineers and technicians with reports, design packages, and other needs.

    + Research missing data points to resolve discrepancies and ensure data accuracy.

    + Resolve conflicting or duplicate serial numbering on designs.

    + Review contract standard template development for proper application.

    + Assist with update and maintenance of attributes and metadata of engineering documents.

    + Utilize advanced search techniques to locate existing drawings and records.

    + Assist management with integration of engineering requirements for projects.

    + Collaborate to find engineering compromises to conflicting requirements.

    + Assist in pre-engineering calculations to ensure product reliability.

    + Collaborate on project requirements and assist with field inquiries.

    + Analyze design errors and recommend corrective actions.

    + Assist with implementation of chosen solutions.

    + Travel to field locations to gather infrastructure information for project documentation.

    + Evaluate material and equipment requirements for projects, prepare requisitions, and submit recommendations.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related field is preferred.

    + 6 months of electrical engineering work experience in a technical/engineering environment.

    + Understanding of electrical power substation protection schemes and control systems.

    + 6 months of experience as an Electrical Technician or CAD support.

    + Experience with CAD and drawing management software.

    + Experience with data storage, database management, and records maintenance.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with electrical high-voltage substation design and drafting in the utility industry is preferred.

    + Experience with MicroStation CAD software.

    + Experience with ProjectWise software.

    Work Environment

    The role is based in Vancouver, WA. The work environment is slower-paced, with somewhat flexible hours and business casual attire. The position requires independent work, with tasks driven by deadlines and often waiting on approvals. Personal protective equipment such as hard hats, dust masks, eye protection, and electrical protective clothing are required. Valid U.S. Driver’s License and First Aid/AED/CPR Certification are necessary.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
