    Job Title: SUE TechnicianJob Description

     

    As a SUE Technician, you will provide underground utility flagging or designation with proficiency using electromagnet equipment and other geophysical means. You will be responsible for designating all utility line types, whether conductive or non-conductive, such as water, sewer, gas, electric, fiber optic, PVC, and other underground facilities that may impact site excavation. You will mark utilities with flags or paint and create sketches of the results for future client use. Additionally, you may be required to learn how to establish survey control and perform utility designation markings using conventional survey equipment, including robotic total stations and RTK GPS technology. Maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicles will also fall under your oversight.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide underground utility flagging or designation using electromagnet equipment and other geophysical means.

    + Designate all types of utility lines, including both conductive and non-conductive materials.

    + Mark utilities with flags or paint and produce sketches for future client use.

    + Learn to establish survey control and perform utility designation markings using conventional survey equipment.

    + Oversee the maintenance of survey equipment, supplies, and vehicles.

    + Work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as required.

    Essential Skills

    + At least 3 years of experience in the SUE field as a technician.

    + Knowledge of subsurface utility engineering and utility locating.

    + Proficiency in electromagnetism, vacuum, and ground-penetrating radar.

    + Experience with land surveying and duct bank recognition.

    + Familiarity with AutoCAD is beneficial.

    + Clear understanding of ASCE 38-02 standards and quality levels.

    + Experience with robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS is preferred.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High school diploma or GED.

    + Five years of SUE designation and field survey experience is ideal.

    + Valid MD driver's license and a good driving record.

    + Ability to obtain and hold a federal security clearance.

    + Willingness to travel occasionally.

    You will join a very reputable firm that has been in operation for over 50 years. The firm undertakes projects in K-12, light commercial, and industrial sectors, with around 250 employees across three offices in DC, NOVA, and Germantown, MD. The MD office was the first to be established. You will work within a close-knit team that enjoys company outings together.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Germantown, MD.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $55.00/hr.
