Description
The Georgia Department of Education – Office of State Schools is recruiting for a part-time Systems Administrator 1. Under the general supervision of the Technology Operations Manager, this position is responsible for performing a wide range of IT functions, including network administration, hardware/software support, and ticket-based issue resolution. The Systems Administrator 1 will report directly to the Technology Operations Manager and is responsible for ensuring reliable IT operations, supporting staff and students, and maintaining compliance with organizational technology standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a culturally Deaf environment and demonstrate sensitivity to communication needs and accessibility.
Duties include but are not limited to the following
• Provide first-level technical support for staff and students, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network
issues
• Manage and maintain local area networks (LAN), wireless networks, and internet connectivity
• Monitor and respond to IT support tickets using a centralized ticketing system
• Install, configure, and update operating systems and applications
• Maintain inventory of IT equipment and ensure proper documentation
• Collaborate with other IT staff across the Office of State Schools to ensure consistent service delivery
• Support audiovisual and assistive technology used in classrooms and administrative offices
• Ensure compliance with data security and privacy policies
• Provide technical assistance during school events and meetings as needed
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Additional work hours during the week and weekend, including travel may be assigned to meet the needs of the program and schools.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in educational or public sector environments
• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn
• Understanding of Deaf culture and accessibility considerations in technology
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
