The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the preparation of propulsion systems, sled configuration, sled transportation, sled launch and recovery, rainfield operations and other tasks in the hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical support areas. Responsibilities Planning: Projects a five-week work schedule based on information provided by the Flight Chief regarding tests to be conducted. Work Direction: Through (2) work leaders, directs the work activities of (8) Sled Systems Mechanics (WG-11s) and (3) crane operators (WG-11s), engaged in sled propulsion preparations, track launch operations and miscellaneous test support activities. Administration: Schedules and approves leave for subordinates. Sets performance standards and makes formal evaluations. Ensures proper training to newly assigned personnel. Other required supervisory tasks that are needed. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance and Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the Ability to Lead or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is an experienced Sled Launch Mechanic with excellent communication skills. They should be able to plan and execute complex Test and Evaluation (T&E) plans with engineers and customers by directing and coordinating work assignments with employees, other supervisors and leadership at the Holloman High Speed Test Track. Post mission they should be able to analyze performance of their team and adjust processes to improve performance, safety or compliance of test standards. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques associated with T&E test site preparation and munition storage, transport and use. Experience in the installation, arming, firing and recovery of high-speed rocket sleds and their integration with the Holloman High Speed Test Track. Working knowledge of aircraft egress and jettison systems. Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity / Equal Employment Treatment. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish multiple T&E missions simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
