    Thermo Fisher Scientific's Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD) offers innovative microscopy and microanalysis solutions. We provide SEMs, TEMs, and DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs with advanced software. Our tools help customers move from questions to usable data by combining high-resolution imaging and physical, elemental, chemical, and electrical analysis across scales and sample types.

     

    The Advanced Technology Group in Hillsboro is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Computational Scientist. This person will join a dynamic research team and help advance research and innovation in scientific computing applications. The ideal candidate has proven experience in numerical methods and a solid background in computational physics.

    Responsibilities

    + Contribute to the execution of simulation projects that advance customers’ scientific goals in electron microscopy.

    + Provide modeling and computational support for projects in charged particle physics and ion-sample interaction.

    + Develop, test, and maintain in-house scientific codes and simulation tools.

    + Take ownership of specific project components aligned with the group’s five-year technology roadmap.

    + Support the creation of intellectual property, including invention disclosures and patent applications.

    + Stay informed on brand new computational methods, algorithms, and guidelines.

    + Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.

    + Prepare and present technical reports and research summaries to internal collaborators.

    + Represent the group at conferences, workshops, and technical meetings as appropriate.

    Qualifications

    + BS degree in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience; MS preferred.

    + Proven experience in creating and applying scientific code for simulation or modeling.

    + Experience with advanced mathematical, statistical, or machine learning methods applied to physical science problems (highly desirable).

    + Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python, Julia, or similar.

    + Familiarity with parallel computing, GPU acceleration, or high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

    + Strong data analysis and visualization skills.

    + Hands-on experience with DualBeam or focused ion beam (FIB) systems is a plus.

    + Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
