    Job Description

    How will you make an impact?

     

    You will be part of the automation engineering team to develop new manufacturing equipment that supports the global network of Thermo Fisher Scientific SUD manufacturing sites.  You will be responsible for ensuring design quality, safety, and delivery to equipment requirements and standards.

     

    What will you do?

     

    You will have direct responsibility for specifying and designing new manufacturing equipment as well as improvements to existing designs to improve productivity, capacity, cost reduction, and efficiency.  You will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of quality and efficiency in your work.

     

    How will you get here?

    Education

    + Technical/Engineering Bachelor’s degree with 5 years (orMaster’sdegree with 3 years)ofdemonstratedapplicable experience including management of direct reports in a technical/engineering environment.

    Experience

    + Hands-on experience designing, integrating, andvalidating **machine vision systems** in automated manufacturing, including inspection for quality, alignment, and particulate detection.

    + Proven success selecting, specifying, and implementing **vision hardware and software** (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, or equivalent) and integrating with automation and control platforms.

    + Demonstrated experience developing and deploying **AI-based vision solutions** , from data collection and labeling through model training and validation using tools such as **TensorFlow,** **PyTorch** **, or OpenCV** .

    + Skilled in **system integration and real-time performance tuning** , including camera calibration, lighting optimization, and inference at the edge or in cloud environments.

    + Strong background in **collaborative engineering** ;working cross-functionally with mechanical, controls, and process teams to implement robust and compliant vision systems in **GMP-regulated environments** .

    + Proven ability to **lead technical initiatives** , manage project deliverables, and apply continuous improvement techniques to enhance inspection reliability, accuracy, and efficiency.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    + In-depth understanding of **image processing, computer vision, and deep learning** principles for object detection, classification, and segmentation.

    + Working knowledge of **PLC and robotic integration** , as well as **closed-loop control** with vision systems for automated inspection and process feedback.

    + Proficient in **MLOps** **and data management** practices, including version control, monitoring, retraining, and deployment of production vision models.

    + Strong analytical skills with experience using **DOE, FMEA, SPC, and Six Sigma** methods tovalidateand continuously improve system performance.

    + Excellent technical communication and documentation skills; proficient in **SolidWorks/PDM** , **MS Office** , and authoring protocols, reports, and procedures.

    + Knowledge of **Lean Manufacturing, GMP, and ISO 13485** standards; proactive problem-solver with a demonstrated record of technical leadership andresultsorientation.
