DEFINITION
OPEN/PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY

The City of Stockton’s Municipal Utilities Department is excited to announce an opportunity to join our team! This position plays a key role in supporting vital plant operations and working hands-on with a wide range of dynamic equipment. Performs maintenance and repairs on power generation and distribution systems 12kV and below, including generators, substations, transformers, grounding systems switchgear, panelboards, circuits, back-up power systems, electro-mechanical and solid-state protection and synchronization devices. Provides technical assistance and operational troubleshooting on the 60kV substation, including coordination with PG&E. The incumbent will take on diverse and impactful technical challenges each day.
In this role, you’ll also work with power generation systems up to two (2) megawatts and their control systems, as well as electrical systems ranging from 12KV and below to 12- and 24-volt DC. This position features a 9/80 work schedule—Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.—with every other Friday off to support great work-life balance.
Incumbents in this position are included in the Civil Service System, in a "for-cause" employment status, and are represented by the Operating Engineers' Local No. 3, Operations and Maintenance Unit (Classified/Represented).
This recruitment is being conducted as an Open/Promotional recruitment. Current full-time City of Stockton employees may apply for this position as a promotional opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on a promotional list. All other candidates may apply for this position as an open competitive opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on an open list. The appointing authority will have the option of requesting names from the promotional list, the open list, or a combination of both.
Prior to appointment, eligible candidates may be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and a medical examination which includes a back evaluation.
Performs highly skilled electrical/instrumentation installation, repair, maintenance and modification work; performs related work as assigned. May assign, direct, and review the work of staff engaged in electrical/instrumentation installation, repair, and maintenance work.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Entry Level
Initially, under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of duties in electrical/instrumentation installation, repair and maintenance. Incumbents may advance to the journey level after obtaining the required experience and demonstrating proficiency at the entry level.
Journey Level
Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of assigned duties in electrical installation, repair, and maintenance. Incumbents may advance to the Senior level after obtaining the
required experience and participating in the City's classified competitive process.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Entry Level:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in electrical/electronic/instrumentation work.
Journey Level:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in electrical/electronic/instrumentation work.
Other Requirements:
All Levels
Valid California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.
The Examination:
Applicants who qualify in terms of relevant work experience and education, that best fit the needs of the City, will be invited to participate in the examination process. The examination process may include a written examination weighted 100%. However, the City reserves the right to utilize alternative testing methods if deemed necessary. Candidates must receive a minimum passing score of 70%, as determined by the relative performance of all candidates in all portions of the examination. In the event of identical ratings, candidates' names will be arranged in order of application date/time, and, if the same, then arranged alphabetically.
