The Norfolk community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person -centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide nursing support for the NCSB Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program. The LPN will complete a number of competing work priorities in a time-restricted environment. Works with a challenging population of patients, from diverse backgrounds with varying degrees of life stress and comorbid medical and psychiatric conditions. Provided care to patients with co-occurring developmental disabilities and substance use disorders. The LPN will work primarily in an office setting; however, may provide some services in the community. The LPN will be assigned to a primary program but will be expected to provide nursing services to other programs of the agency, as required. The LPN position is vital for the daily operations in the Norfolk ACT Team. This will be used for daily medication rounds, working in the clinic doing medical assessments, vital signs, and injections, and ordering and packing medications.
Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $59,393 - $68,301
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
+ Performs psychiatric nursing services such as medication administration, intramuscular injections, evaluating patients using the AIMS (Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale-Revised) rating scale, and obtaining vital signs.
+ Serves as an intermediary between medical providers and other Norfolk CSB staff; screens and manages staff and patient phone calls, emails and other patient-related concerns to ensure maximum medical provider efficiency and excellent customer service.
+ Communicates education, observations, significant data, and interventions to treatment team members via documentation and other methods (if necessary).
+ Participates in the evaluative process of patients in concert with other team members.
+ In accordance with Board of Pharmacy regulations governing Controlled Substances Registrations (CSR) and Alternate Delivery Sites, participates in the ordering, receipt, storage, dispensing, security, and record keeping of medications.
+ Maintain medication logs, package medications, and process medications for return to the authorized contract pharmacy.
+ Assure the security and safety of the Medication Room and its contents to include setting security alarm in the evening and making sure that the alarm is armed before leaving the unit.
+ Observes patients for medication reactions with referral and follow-up for any needed evaluation and/or care.
+ Collects blood and urine specimen, per medical provider order.
+ Monitors inventories and requests replenishment of needed supplies.
+ Participates in cross-training activities when assigned.
+ Work assigned shifts in other clinical programs when required.
+ Perform other related duties as required.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certifications may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
One year of experience in a medical environment performing patient care duties.
Additional Information & Requirements
+ Requires licensure by Commonwealth of Virginia as Practical Nurse, or if licensed in another state to be eligible via Nursing Licensure Compact.
+ Must be in good standing with the Board of Nurse Examiners, and currently certified in CPR.
Working Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am-5pm

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
