    • Menlo Park, CA – Onsite 5 days/week (next to Caltrain Station)

    Jennifer Fukumae with Robert Half Finance & Accounting is partnering with a well-established, multi-generational family office based in Menlo Park, California. This organization manages a diverse investment portfolio across public equities, private investments, real estate, and alternative assets. The team works closely with top-tier advisors, auditors, and investment managers to ensure strong governance, long-term wealth preservation, and best-in-class financial stewardship.

    Position Overview

    Our client is seeking an Investment Accounting Controller (or Assistant Controller) to join its growing investment accounting team. This role is ideal for a technically strong, detail-oriented accounting professional who values precision, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

     

    You’ll oversee and enhance accounting operations across both audited and non-audited entities, maintain robust internal controls, and collaborate closely with investment and finance leadership to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.

     

    Team Structure

     

    You’ll join a collaborative five-person Investment Accounting Team and report directly to the Director of Investment Accounting.

    Requirements

    + Oversee and review investment accounting work to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with GAAP where applicable.

    + Manage accounting for both audited (GAAP) and non-audited entities — approximately 20% of the portfolio is audited.

    + Lead and support the annual audit process as liaison between internal teams and external auditors.

    + Prepare and review K-1s and partnership accounting reports.

    + Maintain high-quality accounting standards, implementing process and control improvements as needed.

    + Partner with the investment team on valuations, capital activity, and performance reporting.

    + Oversee accounting entries and reconciliations within NetSuite.

    + Collaborate with senior finance leadership on reporting enhancements, special projects, and system initiatives.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.

    + Strong foundation in investment accounting and GAAP principles.

    + Experience with audited financials, partnership accounting, and K-1 reporting.

    + Proficiency in NetSuite (or comparable ERP systems).

    + High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and strong organizational skills.

    + Excellent communication skills and a collaborative work style.

    + Prior experience in a family office, investment firm, or fund accounting environment strongly preferred.
