Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The School of Physical Therapy at Slippery Rock University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in our well-established, three-year, fully accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Slippery Rock University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and offers an excellent salary structure, a comprehensive benefits package, and an exceptional retirement program. Responsibilities will focus on development and implementation of clinical education policies and procedures within the program curriculum. These responsibilities include: leading the program’s clinical education team, facilitating clinical site affiliation agreements, developing and sustaining relationships with clinical site staff, counseling and mentoring students regarding clinical education needs and wants, coordinating student clinical placements, assessing all aspects of clinical education including student performance, ensuring compliance with relevant accreditation and legal standards, exploring contemporary teaching and learning opportunities, and travel to clinical sites as needed.
Responsibilities may include teaching in the faculty member’s area of expertise and areas of need within the department’s curriculum. Other duties include service at the department, college, university, and professional levels, student advising, and pursuit of scholarly activity through research, publications, professional presentations, and clinical practice. All faculty must comply with the accreditation requirements of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education ( CAPTE ).
Minimum Qualifications
Current unrestricted license or eligibility for PT licensure in Pennsylvania.
Doctoral preparation with a DPT , PhD, EdD, or other doctoral degree.
Minimum 3 years of full-time post-licensure clinical PT practice.
Minimum 2 years of experience as Director of Clinical Education ( DCE ) for a CAPTE accredited physical therapy program, or a minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a physical therapy education program, or minimum 2 years of experience as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education ( SCCE ) or Clinical Instructor (CI) at a physical therapy facility.
Teaching experience in higher education or Physical Therapy professional development settings.
Successful candidates must possess strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, counseling, and mentoring skills.
Successful candidates must demonstrate commitment to the education of diverse populations.
Successful performance in an interview and teaching demonstration, where effective teaching skills and use of instructional technology will be evaluated.
Preferred Qualifications
Contemporary clinical practice and expertise beyond that obtained in an entry-level physical therapy program in one or more of the following content/practice areas: cardiopulmonary physical therapy, pediatric physical therapy, and/or professional practice standards in physical therapy.
Academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or other) or enrolled in academic doctoral degree program.
Experience with Exxat or similar clinical education software management program as well as site clinical education software programs, such as my Clinical Exchange.
Experience with the Clinical Internship Evaluation Tool ( CIET ).
Experience teaching in a graduate-level physical therapy program.
Evidence of commitment to a scholarly agenda.
Evidence of commitment to community engagement and professional advocacy.
Advanced training or board certification in an area of clinical expertise.
Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and commitment to contribute to the program, department, college, and university.
