    Description

    This Field Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of control systems and equipment in power generation environments. This role supports both field and plant operations, with a focus on electrical and controls systems for generators, switchgear, and balance of plant equipment. The technician will work closely with internal teams, external contractors, and customers to ensure reliable and efficient operation of power generation assets with commitment to safety is expected.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    + Install, calibrate, commission, and troubleshoot mechanical and control systems for power generation equipment, including generators, switchgear, and associated balance of plant systems.

    + Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues involving mechanical, electrical, and software-related problems in field and plant environments.

    + Perform repairs and upgrades to control modules, sensors, protective devices, and related equipment.

    + Review and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, wiring schematics, and network diagrams.

    + Program, test, and document control system software and hardware, including HMI screens and trending software.

    + Maintain detailed service records, reports, and documentation for all work performed.

    + Provide technical support and training to customers, junior technicians, and other stakeholders.

    + Participate in project management activities, including submittal approvals, inventory management, and coordination with procurement.

    + Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies at all times.

    + Travel to project sites as required, including potential overnight stays and extended hours.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training or college coursework preferred.

    + Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in field service, controls, or related technical roles in the power generation or heavy equipment industry.

    + Strong knowledge of control systems, electrical and mechanical systems, and associated software (e.g., CAT ET, SIS, FactoryTalk, Unity, acSELerator, or similar Power Automate etc ).

    + Experience with generators, engines (diesel/natural gas), switchgear, and balance of plant equipment.

    + Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.

    + Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.

    + Proficiency with computers and standard office software (Outlook, Excel, Word).

    + Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL preferred.

    + Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.

    + Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

    + Consistently arrives at work as scheduled, ensuring prompt attendance to maintain project efficiency and reliability

    + Arrives at work in a fit state, both physically and mentally, ready to perform duties safely and effectively.

    + Lifting: Should be able to lift up to 50lbs. consistently on their own or with reasonable accommodation.

    + Pushing/Pulling: Should be able to push/pull utility carts/pallet jacks up to 60lbs. on their own or with reasonable accommodation.

    + Climbing/Ascending/Descending Various Equipment: Should be able to safely climb steps, ladders, and ascend/descend various equipment consistently on their own or with reasonable accommodations.

    + Other Physical Requirements: Will need to be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, and reach throughout their shift on their own or with reasonable accommodation.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in engineering, controls, or related technical field.

    + Experience with project management software (Procore, MS Project, Smartsheet).

    + Familiarity with Caterpillar or other OEM equipment and service tools.

    + Relevant safety training.

    Working Conditions

    + Work performed in field, plant, and customer job site environments.

    + Exposure to varying weather conditions and confined spaces.

    + Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

    + Travel required as needed for project support and training.
