About VCA Shelden Animal Hospital:

VCA Shelden Animal Hospital is seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our AAHA-accredited, Fear Free Certified, Primary Care Animal Hospital in Louisville, KY.

We’re a collaborative team dedicated to exceptional patient care and a supportive work environment. Our hospital is open Monday–Friday 8am–6pm and Saturday 8am–4pm, closed Sundays. We offer wellness and urgent care, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, laser therapy, and more—caring exclusively for dogs and cats.

As a Fear Free Certified Practice, we prioritize early disease detection and low-stress handling. You’ll have opportunities to learn, grow, and develop your Fear Free skills with us.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Assist veterinarians in all aspects of patient care, including physical exams, surgeries, dental procedures, and emergency care.

+ Perform diagnostic tests, such as radiographs, blood work, and urinalysis, and prepare samples for laboratory testing.

+ Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.

+ Monitor and care for patients, including pain management, wound care, and nutritional support.

+ Perform venipuncture.

+ Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with AAHA standards and clinic protocols.

+ Educate and communicate with pet owners about their pet's health, treatment plans, and post-care instructions.

+ Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.

+ Assist with inventory management, including ordering and stocking supplies.
