    The **Lead Specialist** **Toolmaker assures** that dsm-firmenich products are consistent and of high quality by producing components, assemblies and maintaining company tooling and fixtures in a machine shop environment. Executes and coordinates activities and duties independently. Takes ownership of all activities and projects assigned.

    Your key responsibilities

    + Build and maintain production and prototype devices, inspection tooling, molds, etc. while maintaining and holding the extremely tight tolerances (i.e., +/- .0002) associated with this type of work. Such tolerances often being in the tenths of thousands of an inch. Will work with machinery, hand tools, fixtures and measuring/test equipment.

    + CNC experience required.

    + Work independently on a wide scope of projects as assigned by the Shop Operations Supervisor or Model Shop Manager.

    + Build and maintain protype assemblies, devices, components, production tooling, inspection tooling, fixtures, molds, etc. from various materials while holding and maintaining extremely tight tolerances (i.e., +/- .0002)

    + Develop, construct and maintain complicated equipment, apparatus, mechanisms, or attachments where only tentative designs, rough sketches, or oral instructions are available. Maintain toolroom equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations and operate according to established SHE requirements. Complete documentation according to GMP standard standards and the dsm-firmenich Quality System.

    + Critical thinker problem solver with solid troubleshooting skills. Good written and oral communications skills. Collaborates with the team; shares relevant information with those who may be affected by decisions. Participates in formal or informal group problem solving for immediate issues. May lead projects in the process of problem solving, soliciting ideas and opinions to form recommendations or action plans. Sees help in gathering resources, solicits input, and uses a variety of techniques to reach a solution.

    + Machine shop environment where appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn.

    + Position requires standing or walking for majority of shift. Occasional projects may require sitting for up to 6 hours/day. Some tasks require repetition of movement. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted regularly, and up to 500 lbs. with mechanical assistance regularly, and transport using a cart.

    You bring

    + High School graduate or equivalent; completion of formal journeyman program in tool & die making, or equivalent work experience. (Mold making degree a plus)

    + 10 years of experience in Model Making trade. Requires excellent working knowledge of job/position responsibilities, procedures, practices and advanced training in the machining trades profession.

    + Requires excellent project management skills.

    + Deals with very complex problems and processes that must be broken down into manageable pieces. Sees relationships between problem components and prioritizes them. Utilizes knowledge, experience and available resources to find solutions. Participates or leads in development of improvements and implements change. Identifies, develops, and initiates innovations and solutions where precedents may not exist, employing a communication style appropriate to the person or audience.

    + Interacts with colleagues and contractors, employing a communication style appropriate to the person or audience. Seeks additional information to enhance understanding. May initiate and compose various types of basic business communication. Translates technical or procedural information into specifications or action plans. Conveys technical or complex information to others in non-technical terms. Considered a resource, mentor, trainer and example for others in the field.

    + Takes ownership in formulating recommendations on difficult problems. Responsibilities include regularly making decisions and taking independent action on matters affecting projects and colleagues assisting with projects.

     

    The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. **Hourly $31- 39.49 $ USD.**

     

    In addition to base salary, we also offer a comprehensive total rewards package, inclusive of annual incentive pay, a retirement savings plan, health care coverage, paid time off, recognition programs and a broad range of other benefits.
