About this Job

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is a 24-bed acute care critical access hospital serving the Florida Parishes region of Southeast Louisiana. We offer a wide range of services including general surgery and a 24-hour emergency department. At Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center, we are able to bring you a wide range of services close to home, provided by a network of board certified physicians.

The Technician (PRN) position is located in the Pathology Department. Shift will be determined by the Department Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general laboratory experience; OR

Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; OR

An associate or bachelor’s degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science; OR

Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

+ Performs veni-puncture in keeping with standard protocol on patients to obtain blood for requested analysis.

+ Interviews, screens, and performs sterile veni-puncture in keeping with standard protocol to obtain 500 ML whole blood for use in the blood bank.

+ Prepares laboratory specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and sputum for diagnostic evaluation.

+ Prepares feces and other materials for examination for the presence of ova and parasites.

+ Prepares, embeds, cuts, stains, mounts, labels, and catalogues tissue sections.

+ Prepares, stains cover slips, and catalogues cytology specimens.

+ Prepares reagents, soils, and plant and animal tissues for analysis to identify pH, lime, organic matter, minor elements, soluble salts, etc.

+ Operates pH meters, salt bridges, balances and colorimeters, calibrating as necessary.

+ Performs microscopic examination, records, and reports test results.

Position-Specific Details:

Work Location: This Technician PRN position is located in the Pathology Department.

Work Hours: Shift will be determined by the department Manager.

Shift Differentials: In addition to Base Pay, Shift Pay and Certification pay is included only when working.
