Summary You will serve as an AIRFIELD/ AIR TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST in the AIR OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of NB CORONADO ALF SAN CLEM. Responsibilities You will manage various airfield maintenance programs in coordination with Public Works Department (e.g., runway rubber removal, pesticide, herbicide, airfield striping programs). You will coordinate airfield construction projects (e.g., cargo handling, passenger and baggage handling, facilities improvement) to ensure operations conform to established safety practices and procedures. You will oversee daily airfield inspections to identify discrepancies and system outages (e.g., navigational aids, landing aid systems, airfield lighting, pavement). You will analyze existing transportation policies and regulations to recommend changes for procedural improvements and act as the Contracting Officers Representative (COR). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing daily airfield checks to include safety, Foreign Object Damage and equipment conditions on the airfield runways, taxiways, parking aprons, ramps, facilities and airfield lighting systems; 2) Coordinating corrective actions during unsafe conditions and makes recommendations to close the airfield until the safety risk is mitigated; and 3) Coordinating daily airfield construction and maintenance projects. 4) Applying performance characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of various types of aircraft to make rapid, safe, and viable decisions when emergency and/or unusual runway conditions exist. OR Successful completion of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled. OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. This complex is accessible only by aircraft and the incumbent must be willing to travel frequently to and from San Clemente Island (SCI). Due to remoteness incumbent is required to spend the work week on the island, and to commute to the mainland for weekends and holidays, at least once weekly, to oversee operation of the SCI Desk at NASNI.
