    Description

    Do you have a passion for the outdoors and want to make a difference in your community? We’re looking for a Park Maintenance Specialist to help us keep the beautiful Pine Island/Matlacha areas safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone who visits. You’ll play an essential role in maintaining our parks, athletic fields, and public spaces to ensure they’re always in top shape. This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to be part of a team that takes pride in making these outdoor spaces enjoyable for families, athletes, and nature lovers alike!

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    What You’ll Do:

    + Prepare and maintain athletic fields & courts – Get them ready for action and keep them safe for play.

    + Clean public restrooms daily – Ensure they are always sparkling clean for park visitors.

    + Waste management & litter control – Empty trash bins and pick up litter to keep the park pristine.

    + Landscaping duties – Mow, prune, weed, water, and plant to keep the grounds looking beautiful year-round.

    + Inspect & maintain playgrounds, equipment, and buildings – Make sure everything is safe and in working order.

    + Open and close facilities – Unlock and lock up the park’s facilities as part of your routine.

    + Organize daily tasks – Take the lead on daily duties while also working on special projects.

    + Operate tools and equipment – Use small tools, mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles safely to get the job done.

    + Ensure safety – Handle all cleaning supplies and equipment in an environmentally responsible way.

    + Provide customer service – Help park visitors and address any concerns in a friendly and professional manner.

     

    Education, Experience, Licensing

    What We’re Looking For:

    + A High School diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).

    + 6 months of experience in maintenance or a related field.

    + Must complete First Aid and CPR training within 6 months of hire (don’t worry, we’ll provide the training!).

    + A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

    + A passion for working outdoors and ensuring the safety and beauty of public spaces.

    + An ability to communicate effectively with the public and handle tough situations with grace.

     

    An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the stated requirements.

    Bonus Skills:

    + Previous customer service experience is a plus!

    + Basic math skills for tasks like measuring and estimating.

    + A love for working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

    Work Schedule:

    + This position may require flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays to ensure our parks are always in great shape.

    About the Parks & Recreation Department:

    The Lee County Parks & Recreation team is dedicated to providing high-quality, safe, and fun recreational spaces for the entire community. We manage over 70 parks and facilities across Lee County, including playgrounds, sports fields, beaches, nature preserves, and more! Whether you’re a visitor enjoying a picnic, a family at a ball game, or someone out exploring nature, we help create the spaces that bring people together and enhance their outdoor experiences.
