Description
The Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney is dedicated to the principles of public safety, equity, honesty, and fairness. We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Receptionist / File Room Clerk to join our team. This dual-role position is ideal for someone who enjoys providing excellent front desk service while keeping records and files organized behind the scenes.
Departmental Hiring Salary: $20.00 an hour
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, 20 hours per week
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
+ Greet and assist visitors and staff in a professional manner
+ Answer direct phone calls, take messages, and manage inquiries
+ Maintain and organize physical and electronic filing systems
+ Retrieve, file, and track documents as needed
+ Perform general clerical duties including data entry, photocopying, and scanning
+ Support office staff with administrative tasks as assigned
Education/Experience
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. The ideal candidate will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, case management systems, and have a working knowledge of legal terminology, forms, and procedures. As a public face of this Office and of the justice system, people skills and a positive attitude are a must. Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
No experience required.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
+ Previous experience in reception, clerical, or office support preferred
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
+ Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) a plus
Additional Information & Requirements
Work Location: 800 East City Hall Drive, Suite 600, Norfolk, VA 23510
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, 20 hours per week
+ Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
+ Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
+ Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
+ Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
