Summary:
Manages the nursing staff and the nursing operations to ensure quality patient care. Assists in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards and requirements. Determines staffing requirements. Screens and interviews nursing applicants and orients personnel with assistance from other managers whose efforts support patient service.
Coordinates the nursing staff evaluation process. Facilitates effective communication between patients, nursing, and other staff, all physicians, and central business office management. .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Oversees the clinical operations for all nursing and clinical support activities.
+ Assists Practice Administrator in overseeing the clerical personnel and all clerical operations.
+ Maintains effective nursing staff coverage for the clinic within budgetary constraints.
+ Participates in the interviewing and recruiting of nursing personnel to maximize the service to patients in accordance with practice policies and procedures.
+ Assists with the review and revision of clinical policies and procedures. Reviews and revises as necessary and coordinates the inclusion of professional standards of organizations such as ONS, CLIA, and OSHA into the patient service procedures.
+ Verifies encounter form charges to ensure proper/appropriate charges.
+ Works with Business Officer Director to implement the correct use of charge codes and educates all staff in correct procedures per reimbursement guidelines.
+ Completes annual evaluations of all full-time nursing department staff for respective clinic.
+ Assists Practice Administrator in completing annual evaluations of all clerical staff for respective clinic.
+ Assists Executive Director and other Charge Nurses in completing annual evaluations for all flexi-pool nurses.
+ Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws and schedules and coordinates employee vacations, sick leave, and overtime.
+ Assists with staff training and in-services as required.
+ Works with Compliance Office to facilitate ONOI and internal audit processes.
+ Coordinates and implements internal development programs for nursing staff to enhance staff and patient satisfaction and retention.
+ Communicates skillfully with patients and families, triaging problems and needs, and initiating appropriate action.
+ Facilitates communication between Central Business Office Management, physicians, and clinical staff to identify any problems or needs, and the suggested actions to correct.
+ Documents all communications accurately and appropriately
+ Assists in maintaining nursing personnel files. Ensures all licensing and certification criteria are met.
+ Provides support and direction as required in the area of clinical research in the practice to ensure staff compliance to the established research protocols.
+ Assists in performing the duties of the OSHA health and safety manager.
+ Performs tasks assigned to staff nurses as necessary.
Education and Experience:
+ Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
+ Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or MSN preferred.
+ Minimum 7 years actively participating as a registered nurse required.
+ Two years oncology experience required.
+ One year supervisory experience required.
+ Current or pending oncology certification preferred.
