    Job Description

    General Summary:

    The Academic Advisor III, is part of the Advising Services team and is expected to assist in all advising and registration activities of Advising and Transfer Services. This adviser will serve as the College of Nursing and Health Sciences liaison and assume primary responsibility of regular communication to undergraduate students, faculty advisors and administrators. Primary case load (250-300 students) will include newly admitted freshmen and transfers majoring in program under CoNH . Responsibilities include: develop remediation plans, collaborating with other academic support departments for identified students, and facilitate assessment of programming provided. This adviser coordinates the University Early Program geared to supporting students identified by faculty needing connection to resources to complete courses successfully. Developing and maintaining communication with all shareholders and facilitation of communication with students will be expected.

    Responsibilities:

    + Provides academic advice and guidance to students.

    + Advises undergraduate students with fewer than 45 earned hours and new transfers in CoNHS.

    + Submits course substitutions, add/drops, and change of curriculums.

    + Approves, establishes, and monitors student probationary terms.

    + Serves as the Early Alert Coordinator; develops communication plans to educate stakeholders regarding the program.

    + Manages the case load of early alerts received during semesters and assesses the program procedures, policies and effectiveness.

    + Assist with all New Student Orientation events.

    + Assists with training and development for faculty advisors.

    + Develop remediation plans and efforts to assist at-risk student populations. Includes collaboration with departments in CoNHS to connect students to appropriate services.

    + Assessment of programming and retention of identified student population.

    + Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

    Necessary Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + One (1) year of related experience in advising and recruiting.

    + College-student facing service as a peer leader, student employee, or similar experience.

    + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with administrators, faculty, students and parents.

    + Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

    + Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

    + Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

    + Proficiency in using Excel, Word, and database applications.

    + Experience with academic advising student-athletes and understanding of NCAA academic requirements as it applies to University core curriculum and degree requirements.

    + Will assist with all new student orientations and prospective visits for student athletes.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree Preferred

    + Four (4) years of related experience in academic support for secondary and/or college-level students.

    + Communication development for print or web design as an instructional tool.

    + Has worked with CRM software to manage communication and develop communication plans.

    + Career coaching and/or familiar with learning and career assessment tools.

    + Experience with graphic design tools.

    + Understanding of TSI, developmental education in higher education, use Datatel-Colleague student database system.

    + Familiar with developing academic remediation plans for at-risk students and understanding of expectations for professional and allied health programs post-baccalaureate.

    + Experience with Student information system or similar information system.

    + Skills in developing publication pieces to deliver key dates and relevant topics to student-athletes and athletic personnel.
