    Major Purpose:

    The Equipment Operator at Savage’s Sweeny TX Facility will be to safely operate material handling equipment, such as track dozer, loaders, bridge crane, locomotives and skid steers to handle petroleum coke and assist in maintaining the equipment according to Savage standards.

    Responsibilities / Job Duties:

    + The Equipment Operator will contribute to a coke-handling team by operating several pieces of equipment that will help move, stockpile, and prepare petroleum coke for distribution.

    + Assist the operation with other tasks deemed necessary to meet customer expectations, i.e. maintenance, clean-up, safety observations and inspections.

    + Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections.

    + Maintain cleanliness of equipment.

    + Expand personal knowledge of operating equipment and complete all required training provided by Savage.

    + Report maintenance issues to the maintenance crew.

    + Understand our critical service requirements and see they are met.

    + Take an active role in our safety program including attendance at all safety meetings and ensure safe behaviors.

    + Ensure environmental compliance.

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    + Extensive experience operating large pieces of heavy equipment and understanding best practices of maintaining and safely operating heavy equipment.

    + Has an invested interest in facility safety.

    + Be able to read, write and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions.

    + Prepared to help with anything requiring attention, as directed by the facility leadership.

    + Environmental awareness.

    + Able to lift 50 lbs.

    + Excellent communication skills.

    + Effective interfacing with internal leadership, direct reports, external vendors and other team members.

    + TWIC Required.

    + Self-starter capable of working independently, in line with company goals, strategies and policies.

    + Ability to work shift work.

    + Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and carry critical projects to completion.

    + A strong record of continuous improvement, personal development and attention to detail.

    + The chosen candidate will have a value system that will embrace our culture.

    Education/Experience:

    + Prior experience operating equipment, conveyors and bridge crane required.

    + Certifications preferred but not required.

    Physical Requirements:

    + Will be on your feet for extended period of time throughout the day.

    + Navigating the facility will include, but is not limited to, exposure to harsh weather conditions, uneven ground, ladders, racks and other high places, ground that can be slick or uneven, and other industrial hazards.

    + The work site is an industrial setting and will require someone who can work safely around this type of environment, as well as ensure compliance with strict OSHA and State regulations.
