We are currently looking for a Public Relations and External Communications Specialist for our Houston, TX office.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
About the Role
Boardwalk is seeking an experienced communicator to join our Corporate Communications team as a Public Relations and External Communications Specialist. This role supports the company’s reputation and visibility by developing and executing communications that share Boardwalk’s story with external audiences, including media, customers, partners, and the broader energy industry.
The ideal candidate will combine strong writing and storytelling skills with sound judgment and an understanding of how to position a company in the public arena. This role works closely with the Director of Corporate Communications and the Content Strategist to shape messages that strengthen trust, highlight performance and speak from a unified voice.
About the Communications Team
The Communications Department leads the company’s reputation, brand, and communications strategy. The team’s purpose is to advance Boardwalk’s business strategy by enhancing visibility, fostering alignment across the organization, and shaping a clear, consistent narrative that resonates with all key audiences.
Key Responsibilities
+ Develop and execute external communications plans that strengthen Boardwalk’s visibility and reputation in the energy industry.
+ Draft and distribute press releases, media statements, and thought leadership content.
+ Support media relations activities, including story development, media outreach, and response coordination.
+ Manage and curate content for the company’s website and social media channels, ensuring accuracy, tone consistency, and brand alignment.
+ Collaborate with internal communications lead to identify stories that highlight innovation, community impact, and operational excellence.
+ Monitor media coverage and industry trends to inform strategy and identify proactive communication opportunities.
+ Assist in event communications, sponsorship visibility, and external recognition efforts.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:
+ 5+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, or corporate communications.
+ Strong writing and editing skills with proven ability to create clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
+ Experience developing media relationships and navigating complex or technical topics.
+ Analytical mindset with ability to use media monitoring and engagement data to evaluate and strengthen communication strategies.
+ Strong understanding of how to align public relations efforts with company objectives and stakeholder priorities.
+ Familiarity with digital and AI-driven tools for monitoring sentiment, analyzing trends, and identifying proactive communication opportunities.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
+ Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
